Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I don't know what it is about a cold(ish) looking car like that in the morning,

makes you want to just jump in and start the engine and warm her up, do your windows etc..

Those Volvos are such a modern shape. Really modern and smart looking! Is this another flipper or a keeper? :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,855 ✭✭✭nd

Yeah I think it looks great. Flipper for sure. But I think it needs a fair bit of work.I'm sure I'll learn something along the way. Learned a lot with the last car and it was enjoyable.

Amber indicators really date the e39 imo. It's a great looking car, but clear indicators would take a decade off of it.

They do, if she proves roadworthy it'll be getting a sport bumper and Face-lift lights.

Is that around Dromineer or Ballina/Killaloe? Looks very familiar to a picnic area/viewing point I've stopped a few times around there.

Further north I'm afraid, that's Lough Melvin.

    First post here I think!

    400373.jpg

Recently bought this. Super clean (apart from one or two dents getting sorted next week). It's only the 1.6 model, so it ain't gonna win any records, but it's nippy enough when you drive her hard. Also took out the resonator box, which helped.

Quite thirsty though! Thankfully, don't commute or anything.

Snap. Did you buy in the UK?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,309 ✭✭✭Harcrid

That was the plan but I didn't bother in the end. I bought my last 5 cars in the UK and didn't feel like going to the hassle again, even though the currency rate is good.

I wanted a bit more piece of mind with this one so bought from an Irish dealer so it has 2 year BMW warranty for anything that may crop up. Probably would have got one a year newer if I went the UK route but I'm happy with the deal I got.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,297 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Yeah the 2 year warranty is expensive when you take into account main dealer prices but I've had to use it recently where my iDRIVE started giving jip and had to be replaced.

Been using my gti as my daily since August, and it's flying  Done a couple of thousand miles now and it has been very reliable. There's still a lot of jobs to be done to it, the bonnet and front bumper need to be resprayed and the alloys need to be refurbished, although I might see if I can get original gti wheels for it.

    Nice car GvidoR.

Thanks. It's not much really though, rough around the edges, especially when compared to other cars here but it's a workhorse that'll do for the time being. Have put around 2k miles on it myself and it's handled them just fine. Was hoping to put Mondeo Si wheels on it from the Escort on it, the PCD is the same on both cars but the centre bore just doesn't match and I think I'd need to get a different set of wheel bolts even if they did fit.

I've officially done 15k in the Civic since I bought it in mid July.

As a car I really have to rate it, it's been great and I am glad I went for it as opposed to some of my other options at the time. Zero problems so far and decent MPG's. Glad I ended up with a pan roof model as it really changes the car as a place to be and the dual zone climate is another feature that i'm wondering how I ever lived without.

The biggest negative imo is the i-Shift. I went in with an open mind despite the awful reviews as I knew i'd like to go automatic and it is "fine". It changes the gears for me. It is sloppy, slow and unintuitive though. You simply have to use manual mode when the engine is cold and for overtaking to stop the clutch from self destructing. It's a chore for slow speed, stop/ start traffic, which is exactly what I wanted an auto to avoid.

You have to hand it to the Japs with this one, if you really study the design imo, it's remarkable and very "out there" both inside and out, compared to say a Focus Mk2 or Golf Mk5 and that's what I like a out it the most i think; that it's just slightly not the stereotypical choice but it's still a really really good car.

That said, just from my own JDM skanger mentality I do wish I held out for a 3dr and I will probably change to one in the next month or two before I get too invested in this car in terms of servicing/ re NCT'ing etc. I've looked at a few Type S recently and the only thing holding me back is the petrol vs diesel debate. I could easily justify diesel and would enjoy the extra MPG's and chaaaaep tax but the petrol has been good to me and would be a more painless long term ownership experience.

Anyway, I treated it to a bit of a clean up job there yesterday. Piss poor photos, but sure :)

Yes. The blanks where the heated seats should be annoys me. Covered it with a period correct Parrot kit though :)

I would have added some info/specs to my post but my current daily is too boring. I'm sure you wouldn't be very impressed by the 75hp engine or the rear drum brakes. :pac:

Made the mistake yesterday evening to call down to the buddies shed, and with very little coaxing to be fair, 8 hours later we were on the road to Mondello for AutoHero's. And sher, there's no point in driving all that way, and not stretch the wee Pug's legs and give her a blast around the track. Granted, it was 20 nervous minutes of watching out for late breaking Honda's, and Toyota's....and everything else, but she lives on like a trooper. The parts list has been growing in the shed, just time or other things keep getting in the way. Set of spacers came this week, but the extended wheel bolts are too long and cause the back wheels to lock, and there's a Performance chip winging its way from somewhere in the world. It's promising me 6BHP, and not many of us can get a 10% boost for €40 hahaha
