She's all set for mondello now, larger front brake setup, that forced the move to 17" wheels, loving the look so far!

Anyone coming down to Mondello Park on Monday other than the lads I know already?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭Toyotafanboi

The auto is acceptable to drive, honestly. If I could go back I would buy a manual, not because I hate the auto as such but because I live in constant fear that it will break and nobody will know how to fix it.

What mileage are you at with yours now?

Not bad at all. Is the end in sight for it or are you keeping it until it dies?

    Impossible to keep clean.

My Civic is on 198,400. Don't think I'll get round to selling it before it hits the magic unsellable 200 :D

I'd love to get a car up to and past 200k. My Volvo has 136k and I'd be surprised if I keep it long enough or it dies first. The e36 has 114k and will only climb by 2k max a year.

It kinda depends on what direction my job takes tbh.

I have a small Volvo that just hit 290k km. It can be done.

The seller seemed to be happy that someone even bothered to look at it, though :D

I had a 1.8 tdci focus I got up to 186k but it was beginning to die before it hit he magi. Loved that car, it replaced a 530d and was full of character that the beemer just didn't have.

Sales seems like a tough gig. Huge pressure to sell, both from the firm and from yourself to actually earn a decent wage.

That and working every saturday etc. Glad I stayed away from that end, personally. As an outsider you may expect it to be marginally glamourous, but all it seems to be is long hours and no lunch breaks.

What industry are you in now do you mind me asking? I've always wondered as you often say you worked in Toyota sales and it wouldn't be hard work out which dealer you were with here in the Midwest.

You'd be wrong with your guesses as I was up the country when I sold cars :)
The company I sell for now is in supply chain/logistics security.

Good to see you still about Fitzgeme, M4 looks the business, still makes me cringe to see that 335 picture. Don't suppose anyone was ever caught after all that? Glad you didn't let it put you off. Best of luck with the new wheels.

The civic looks very well in black. Also, I'd nearly trade a kidney for the exhaust trim pieces. Can't get a set anywhere..

Surely there are a few 1.8 models for breaking on partfinder that you could get bits off?

I'd assume the rear section of the exhausts with the dual exits could be fitted onto the 1.4 system?

    .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭Toyotafanboi

I'd try to buy a whole bumper in the same colour. I had the rear bumper off of mine before and it looked like a right pain in the back door to split the top and lower half of the bumper.

I'd say the 1.4 exhaust is in the same place just hidden behind? And probably just on one side.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,499 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Yeah there's only one exhaust on the 1.4. Even getting the triangles off the bumper is a pain as they've heated up and cooled down and rusted etc.

Splitting the front bumper isn't hard, dunno about the back. Facelift front bumper top half is the same as the older one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,690 ✭✭✭✭Skylinehead

The 1.4 exhaust is behind the right side triangle, pointed down.

I know you can get the chrome trims for them, and I did test getting the triangles off (no problem there) but I never went through with it.

The trims would look a bit silly on their own.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,690 ✭✭✭✭Skylinehead

Partly why I never bothered - and I suspect you'd see the real exhaust through the right trim, but not going through it, rather down towards the ground.

Soooo if anyone's interested I did Munich to Warsaw today but with only 1 breakdown :)
I'll post a pic of how it looks tomorrow.
1000km, 1 breakdown but... my seat belt buckle is broken now so it always thinks the seat belt is off -to remedy that I had to use my wallet to wedge it at a certain angle so that it wouldn't beep, result is I also need a new wallet.
Around about the polish border I started to hear a strange grumbling noise which for the first 100km or so thought it was merely the road surface difference between both countries.
Then it wouldn't go away so I figured I must have a bad tyre.
Only bought them last year brand new so I excluded that.
    Then bang.. wheel bearing.
I actually started praying for someone to crash into me so that I could get it written off.
