    Quick and probably silly question.

I used to use my bike lots and would change tyres maybe every 18 months.

Unfortunately after a traffic accident where I injured my neck, shoulder and back I rarely use my bike. I might take out the kids half dozen times a year for an hour of a plod around, it's all I'm fit for.

So the tyres don't get any wear. The bike is kept indoors and dry so not weathered. If there are no visable cracks Or perishing is it ok to use away ? Or would you change them now that they are five years old ?

When I do bring the kids out in the summer I don't want to have a tyre go to pieces and leave me stranded like an idiot:(

If it looks fine its probably as good as any, but even brand new ones can puncture. Just be prepared to fix or replace a tube in an emergency. If I can do it anyone can :)

I'd say ten years if kept in out of the sun.
I put slick mtb tyres off mine onto Mrs C's, they have a few age cracks, but were bought in 2003.

Keep them away from radiators as well. I think if you store the bike correctly then they can last years.
