Issue with Applications Windows 7 - not starting but showing in Task Manager

    Hi,
    I first noticed this with FireFox, I would double click and it would not start - however it was showing in the task manager (under processes)

    Tried clean install on FF - no luck.

    Then noticed it was happening with some other EXE apps.

    Did a scan using microsoft security essentials nothing found.

    using windows 7 64bit


    edit - also tried the disabling of UAC (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/turn-user-account-control-on-off#1TC=windows-7)

    No joy either ..

    Try using an alternate antivirus... or Malwarebytes just to make sure.

    You could try booting in to safe mode to see if they run (tapping F8 when the system starts up).

    Strange.
    A restart seemed to have solved the issue, did a scan anyway with AdwCleaner and it found some small things which it cleaned - don't think they were the cause though.
