Got quoted €150 for front grill wrap on my black ioniq. Is that an expensive quote?

This place I got quote from is closer to home but I might just go to blanch. Won't cost me €50 in fuel 😂

Amazing that we have 44 Ioniq Electric owners here on boards. Do we even have as many Leaf owners? There are far more Leafs in the country than Ioniqs. How come we have so many Ioniq owners here?

For myself, this is where I first heard of the Ioniq. I had some quiet thoughts about going electric, and had previously owned an i30, which I loved.

When I first saw this thread about the Ioniq, it became agreat resource to get information about electric cars and some opinions about electric cars from people more knowledgeable than myself.

If I hadn’t came across this thread, I don’t know if I would have bought one. Couldn’t imagine driving anything else now to be honest.

We should defend our way of life to an extent that any attempt on it is crushed, so that any adversary will never make such an attempt in the future.

My name has disappeared from the list :(

This thread is also entirely at fault for me buying an Ioniq. Just short of two years ago unkel's enthusiast posts about his test drive turned my head, I had never heard of regenerative braking and asked if I was reading it right that the car charged the battery when it coasts downhill. Someone thought I was being sarcastic but I genuinely hadn't a clue :o

The leaf is the sheeple choice, if you wanted the best EV on the market before Kona/eNiro then the Ioniq is the only choice, no tesco value battery, faster DC charging, CCS (so not a dead standard like chademo)

Just a pity it didnt work out for me range wise. If it works for yoou with 160km in the depths of winter then it's a great EV, the only choice really, and still probably the best in terms of price effectiveness ratio

And the price is coming down too (yes I know it's white but still)

It may be the sheeple choice, but they are 2.5 times cheaper second-hand than the Ioniq, and for many it's the only EV they can afford.

The great thing about the Ioniq is, because of how fast it can charge, the range becomes completely irrelevant if our charging infrastructure ever catches up.

I'm well aware that's a massive if considering what country we live in and how things are generally done here but a guy can dream :pac:

I only have my 171 Ioniq for a month (and coming from L24 I'm delighted with it!) and need to arrange a service soon.

Is there anything I should specifically ask for, i.e. software update, etc? I assume they'll do the usual EV service (i.e. look around & give it a wash ), but don't want to find out afterwards that I should've asked for something else to be done.

Also, separately, I assume there's no way to set the climate control timer to come on while not being plugged in?

    Ioniq above 23k,

    23k/2.5 = 9,400

Any leaf you can buy for €9400 is not a competitor for the Ioniq as it will have probably 70-90km range.

Make sure they give you the software update, your car needs the latest software as it was last updated in April 2018.

You cannot set the climate control to come on unless the car is plugged in (note, doesn't have to be actively charging, you can set it to not charge but just use the mains to power the climate)

One big drawback from Ioniq, the main one, is the lack of app support.

It doesn't matter about the year if it's all you can afford, then it's all you can afford!

If you have a 2 car household, and one person drives less than 80km return a day, does it matter if they do that in a Leaf or Ioniq?

Overall the Ioniq is the superior car, it's efficiency is literally unrivalled (although the Tesla Model 3 standard range comes pretty close!). But if you are a low distance driver, particularly with a second car in the household, then a used Leaf trumps the used Ioniq in the value department by quite a large margin.

Well if this is true and the leaf does indeed trump the ioniq when looking at small commutes and value for money, is it true that a battery owned Zoe for 10k trumps a leaf?

Again, depends on what you're looking for.

A Leaf is a more substantial car than the Zoe, and feels a lot more solid.
If your driving distance is covered by the Leaf, I'd chose the Leaf over the Zoe every day. Especially if you can get the L24 Tekna /SVE.

I was talking about short distances between home charges, less than 100km, and not total km per year. Why would you pay far more for an secondhand Ioniq than a Leaf in that case? In terms of economics, it would seem to be madness.

There wouldn't be much in it at that price point to be honest, again it depends on personal circumstances, the Leaf/Ioniq are bigger than a Zoe, so that might also be important consideration for some people, and not for others.

So my commute will require a dirt diesel or a model 3 long distance. However my wife’s commute is only 20k a day, if she’s not cycling.
We need a second car, so as I can’t afford a Tesla- yet, We are looking at getting an ev for our second occasional use car.
The spec leaf that you mention (l24 tekna) are €17900 (2016) (cars Ireland) compared to Renault Zoe DYNAMIQUE INTENS (2015) that’s coming in at €9950.
That’s battery owned. That’s €7950 in the difference. Pretty big chunk of money?

Once the Zoe meets the following criteria:
Is a safe car to drive.
    Battery owned.
Can take two child’s car seats in rear.
    Can handle 20km commute daily.

The leaf provides all this but will cost nearly 8k more if I go for that spec.

There's a Tekna for sale in Kildare for €14k. Granted it's not €10k, but it's €4k cheaper than the one you mentioned.

If your wife's commute is 20kms per day, then this 151 SV with FNSH (high miles) for €10k would suit down to the ground.

Then don't go for that spec!

In your (wife's) situation, the cheapest Leaf on DoneDeal would suit.
I've a 2011 Leaf with 3 bars gone from the battery (~67% SOH according to LeafSpy).
I've a commute similar to your wife's, and it suits me perfectly for that.

Zoe are overpriced, but a great option as a second car if you can get a ZE40/Q90 model.

Leaf are overpriced tesco value battery, Ioniq is the best value right now for money.

My head says a used ioniq for hopefully €22,000, a 30kw Leaf would do but I get fed up driving by leafs every day. A decent 30kw tekna would be 18k.
The wife likes the Zoe, possible 21k - the zoe isn’t half the car the ioniq is but it has got a bit more like ability for the females and to be honest I like them myself. I’d have to drive it twice a week.

So I guess the option is the return of a leaf to the household albeit a 30kw, an ioniq- a sensible, respected, efficient and well equipped car or follow the wife’s style preference for a Zoe 40...?

I know that in 5-10 years down the road the ioniq will probably be the better car ...but the Zoe is that bit more quirky..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,351 ✭✭✭✭ELM327

The Zoe's advantage will be removed soon, when the AC43 fast chargers (assuming you can get a Q model in the first place) stop being supported. It's a dead standard and in fully private markets like Norway they no longer install it on chargers, usually 22kW ac only.

Even with a fast charging Zoe at a fast 43 AC charger, it still takes over 1 hour to 80%.

It's hard to look past an Ioniq when you consider it's only 1-4 grand more than a 30kWh leaf for a 2017 model. There's a couple now from dealers for 23k asking (and they are still under manufacturer warranty)

Even on an early model (171) there would be 3 years bumper to bumper manufacturer warranty left and 6 years warranty on battery, motor and drivetrain

The cheapest from a dealer is a white one for €23,450. I doubt you will get that for under €23k though. New scrappage deal for €26k is far better value for money, but I'm not sure if that is still available anywhere...

I've mine 2 years next week, 30k km. Need to book it in for another service.

The ioniq is clearly the better car compared to the leaf or Zoe, the problem is I don’t have 23k to spend on a second car.
Therefore in my case the Zoe, or low spec leaf, is better value for money, when I consider my budget and the relatively small commute.

The best EV bang for your buck if you're on a budget is a 141 Leaf 24kWh from about €9k

Honestly the cheapest I have found is 11950. Unless we are talking about bringing in a uk model.

    There’s a 2013 model (doesn’t say spec) for 9450. 60k km.

I said from. You won't get a top spec SVE / Tekna model for that kinda money. There are some low and mid spec Leafs for sale for €9k now and then, even recently from a respected second hand EV dealer (so with warranty), but you have to be vigilant.

If you're serious, ring Phil in electricautos.ie, have a chat, tell him your budget restricitions and he will find you one that suits.

What I would do is bring one in from the UK myself. This one is £6,995 (battery owned). Haggle a couple hundred off, get a good exchange rate (like with Revolut), get a cheap flight and cheap ferry and you can land that in Ireland on Irish plates for €8k

That one's a Visia... really poor spec. If it suits then alright, but it would be immediately off my list anyway being a Visia.

You'd also want to double check it has DC charging.... I know at some point the Visia's didnt have DC charging as standard... maybe they did by 2014 but I'd definitely ask before flying over!

yes steer clear, doesnt even have the screen or anything.
SV spec minimum, avoid XE and I would suggest the cold pack and/or SVE as prerequisite

Beggars can't be choosers. If you only have €8k, you should get this car and not a 2011 high spec one with a poor battery that's now significantly degraded. But you're right of course to make sure it has DC charging.

And if you have €9k, you should be able to get a 141 Acenta / SV

I'd suggest this would be infinitely a better buy than spending more on a crap spec model

They're lying. The pic shows its not 12 bars, looks like 10.

I doubt there is a single 2011-2012 Leaf that still has 12 bars.
