Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I have the night rate time set to start at 12:10am so I would expect it to kick in then, last night it hadn't kicked in by 12:30am. As soon as I unlocked the zappi it started charging. Same thing happened sunday night.

Before it used to kick in pretty much straight away when it hit night rate hours.
That sounds charger related not car related.
Unless you've set the car to charge at 1210 PM instead of 1210am (easy mistake, I've done it!!)

Hah yeah I double and triple checked that jsut to be sure.

Only thing I can think of is I haven't updated the clock on the zappi yet but I wouldn't have thought that would be a problem as it's the car's scheduling I'm using.

I'll have a fiddle around with it this evening anyway, maybe I'm overlooking something.

Car was pre-conditioned and everything this morning without any problem.

I would turn off scheduling until you have the problem solved. Try taking a photo of the set up screen. There was a bug in the ioniq cars firmware that made it forget timer settings, so also take a photo of firmware version on cars screen.

I prefer to use the Zappi as this way if at a public slow charger I won't have to remember to disable the cars charge timer. It also eliminates the ioniq timer bug, but I do have newer firmware in car now.

The main upside to using the cars timer (depart timer) is that it should charge to 100% just as you depart meaning the battery may be warmer hence longer range rather than charging from say midnight to 3am and then battery cooling down before departure.

Going by what you're saying there it shouldn't kick in until sometime in the middle of the night then?

I'll have a look later and see what firmware I have. It's a 191 so should be relatively new but I know for a fact it's not the most up to date one.

Had my first really bad range anxiety yestery coming home from work. I only have 15min journey to and from work so don't charge every night.

Got into car yesterday to go to work at i had 45km of range no problem round trip from work is only 32km. On the way home about 10k form house turtle kicked in. Put on maps to see how far exactly i was from home. 7.5km to home 7km of range. Country road so i crawled at 35-40km and free wheeled where possible. Range stayed just below distance whole way until u think around 4.7km from home range was at 5km then the range went off and just had 3 line. Now i was really panicking. Kept crawling towards home praying to every god there is to let me get in the gate. 800m from home and car would only let me go at 20km/h. When it kicked in i didn't know if i was dying or what was going on. Somehow i made it to home and plugged her in. Totally my own fault for not charging but definitely the warm weather had range higher yesterday morning and it was then affected by the wind, sleet and cold yesterday leaving me very close to being stranded. Scary stuff.

If for instance i did die 800m from home how can i get it to a charge point? Can they be towed?

Once you have 12v to put it in neutral then yes it can

You have a light foot :)

Long story but much of the "efficient" driving was necessitated by
    1. the dearth of rapid chargers on the route(s),
    2. as@holes (locals!) hogging some rapid chargers,
    3. as@holes (LOCALS!) abandoning fully charged cars at rapid chargers,
    4. a brand new triple head rapid charger not working,
    5. a plethora of sheep (nearly as bad as locals!) on rural roads, good EV conditions - dry & calm etc., low average speeds, again, dictated by the roads themselves.

Had no choice but to drive efficiently, but I reckon I lost only 10 or 15% more time than I would have in our 6 cyl auto petrol, overall, charging time aside.

You must have been bored sh1tless to get that sort of efficiency!

Not really, it wasn't motorway mile munching. I've had it averaging over 22kWh/100km on a trip to & from Belfast. At that, I even had to slow down to ensure I'd make the next rapid charger.

Thing I've taken from that, almost 2k km in 4 or 5 days in the Ioniq:

    LOCALS!
    LOCALS!
    LOCALS!
    LOCALS!
    LOCALS!

Used to fly down it at 6AM on my way to a client in Donegal in my 7-series :D

M7 too, at the right time, especially after the M8 traffic peels off.

    nZgCdgW.jpg

A white Leaf, showing no charging lights, pulling 0kWs, presumably fully charged, sitting connected to the rapid charger, long before I managed to reverse in to connect with CCS. It was still there after I left. Ecars app showed the charger free long before I arrived so it could have been there for quite some time.
    Local reg.

Luckily someone moved from the space to the right & I managed to squeeze in across two spaces for the 15 minutes charge I needed.

Think I'll lose the head if I post in the hogging thread :D:D.

Is there electric car charger in Ikea Dublin?

When I was last there I asked why they are the only Ikea in Ireland or the UK without a charger (dunno if that's true or not :P). The lady on the customer service desk made a few phone calls and couldn't come up with an answer. She did say that one guy she phoned will bring the matter higher.

Maybe if all EV drivers visiting did the same they would start to take it seriously.

Saw a very nice white 191 Ioniq in Bailieborough yesterday around 7pm charging. Good to see more of them out and about rural areas. Wonder if a boardsie owns it.

I saw a silver one in castlebar the other evening. That brings the number to three I've seen in the wild in mayo now and the other two were definitely boardsies.

Got my first electricity bill since we got the Ioniq and had a small heart attack as it had jumped up over €200. Turned out it was an estimate and they didn’t take into account the switch to night rate.
Anyway I worked out that the cost per charge is approximately €2.80 6 days a week and that I am saving €210 per month on diesel by the time I take into account the savings my wife makes at the weekend as well, so €2500 per year on a daily commute of 104kms, delighted with that.

I have my Ioniq almost a year.
I have been using Spotify via Android Auto with great success up until recently.

For some reason now I get no audio. When I used to start a song, it would take over from the radio and play. Now Spotify shows the song as playing, the Ioniq MEDIA button even takes me to Spotify and I can see the song playing, but its like the volume it broken/disabled? Hiring/lowering it on media does nothing. If I flick back to Radio its fine and the volume controls work.

    Anyone come across this?!
Am I doing something really silly...
    Thanks.

Trying a different cable would probably be the first thing I'd do. Though if android auto is still connecting that's probably not the issue.

Do you play spotify on more than one device? I've noticed recently that I start spotify on AA, no sound. Then looked at phone spotify and saw that I was playing on a home device instead of "this device"

Yes I do, in work on a Desktop and then in the car.
That's a good shout thanks, might be that.
    I'l check.

spotify is great in the ioniq.

    Top tip...

I got some of the foam play mats in aldi for €8 and with a little trimming it fits perfectly as a boot liner... really good for peeps like me that use the charging cable daily!

I'll see your wet cable and I raise you a big hairy wet dog just after swimming in the Liffey :D

I'd recommend the OEM boot liner. Well made and only about €45 or so. And obviously fits perfectly. The cheapest aftermarket unbranded ones from the UK are about GBP25 so the price from the dealer is not that bad.

Are dealers the only place you can get the official one?

Had to put down a layer of bin bags for transporting a sick cat to the vet last week. They weren't needed in the end but it was a nervous few minutes :D

Unfortunately had an accident tonight. No injuries thankfully but the back driver side of the car is damaged. Bumper in broke (hole in it) and badly scraped. Dark out but seems to be localised to under light between number plate and corner of car. What are my options for getting fixed. Hyundai or independent crash repair? Any special things need to be done because it electric? I.e materials etc so it wont effect aerodynamics and performance

    Sorry for your troubles :(

I presume it's an insurance job. Just bring it to Hyundai so, let it be their responsibility.

Depends who's paying out, and the circumstances of her own insurance (a claim is only going to increase her premium so independent crash repair might end up being cheaper).

If its just aesthetics, I wouldn't be in too much of a rush to go to Hyundai.

A specialist car repair shop will make everything look new. Dealers arnt equipped for body work beyond replacing a bumper. Assuming it is cosmetic with no damage near the battery then no special procedures needed. The body shop can decide if they need to buy any parts, but often they can repair bumpers.

If it's an insurance job, it doesn't matter if it is going to cost €500 or €5000. And most people have step back anyway on comp insurance on a newish car, so shouldn't affect premium at all.

Hyundai won't do any paint work themselves, they will send the car to a specialist repair show. But by bringing the car to Hyundai, they assume overall responsibility for the end result. That's why I would bring it there for an insurance job. And expect a perfect car back.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,512 ✭✭✭OffalyMedic

Thanks for tips guys. Think I'll just go straight to body repair shop. Hopefully do it without going through insurance depending on price.

    Cheers!

Going checking out a 2017 one tomorrow. Anything I should look out for? Any typical "buying an EV" questions I should be asking?

There were two or three recalls you may want to ask about:

Fix to prevent leak onto ECU -- this one was mandatory, I believe
Charging port actuator -- prevents charger getting stuck in the port, affecting only some cars
Brake noise -- brakes sticking on a cold start, again only affecting some cars

Other than that, make sure it comes with both charging cables (Type-2 and 'granny' cable).

I've got a 171 with 40K KM on it, and had no issues aside from a slow puncture!

Not really, as long as both cables are there. The car has 3 years warranty left (and 6 years on the battery / drivetrain). Any recalls not yet carried out, can be done later (for free). I wouldn't even bother bringing that up during your trip tomorrow

Any typical "buying an EV" questions I should be asking?

Check if UK import (miles and km on display) as miles not easily hidden.

See if type 2 cable still has plastic bubble wrap on it (never publicly slow charged)

Look at tyre wear. Front wears much quicker, so swap tyres front to back to keep best on front. Use as bargaining tool.

Check condition of cloth seats and floor mats. Check for 1 and 2 year service record in book. If early 171 then year 2 service worth 140 euro should have been done. Check for 2 sets of keys and number of owners on book.

I would not worry too much about recalls, but if not done you need to get them done for free at main dealer. Similar with old software versions. Without this risk of issue is increased. You can email Hyundai Ireland with vin or reg to check.

Make sure you do test drive in sport mode... and hang on. Try out lane keeping (above 60kph) and adaptive cruise control (follow car in front).

Range shown on display depends on outside temperature and previous trips driving style. Expect 160km worst case winter, typically 190km motorway, 200+ below motorway speeds.

Sorry for derailing slightly.... But what are others experience of this? I got my first set of replacement tyres a couple of weeks ago. The installer refused to believe that I had not ever roster the tyres. He mentioned he has never seen such even wear on tyres in his life.
I suspect (without evidence) that the more even weight distribution caused by the lack of front heavy engine is the main cause....

    All good stuff guys/gals.

Were all 2017 Ioniqs of one spec?

    Or

Any optional extras to speak of? I've heard leather mentioned, but that's it.

  • Administrators, Computer Games Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 32,406 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Mickeroo

Yeah just one spec, if it's an import it could be a higher spec.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,496 ✭✭✭irishgrover

The spec on the import (premium SE) are as follows (I'm trying to list the additions only but some may be common to both)...

    Leather seats
    Front seats ventilated (and heated)
Powered driver seat (with 2 presets)
    Heated steering wheel
Heated seats in back (2 outside seats only)
    Front and back parking sensors
    Blind spot detection system

There may be more but can't think of any...

  • Administrators, Computer Games Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 32,406 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Mickeroo

I think rear seats are heated in the premium SE too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,496 ✭✭✭irishgrover

Yes they are (sorry thought that was common to both - I've edited first post to reflect same)

God I'm **** at this :-) . Yes it does. It's actually by far the best tech feature in the car (bar the ACC). I do a lot of motorway driving and find it invaluable.....(again I'll edit my first post)
