Speedlink Black WidowXE joystick THROTTLE recognised in windows but not in game

I'm wondering would anybody have any suggestions: The game in question is IL2 1946 Ultimate Edition. The other button assigments on the joystick work as they should: rudder, guns etc. The throttle does not - it is recognized in Windows 7 Home Premium, and it works in other Flight Sims. Does anybody have suggestions? thanks.
