guys I recently decided to do a clean install of my old PC, it went through the process ok but then it just goes back to the main screen without the reformat.

well I found out that it was the spare HDD I put in which was 250gb

    MY NEW PROBLEM

the computer wouldn't do the reformat because the extra HDD made it think the whole computer had a fatal error. I disconnected the HDD and tried again and it worked and the PC HDD formatted fine HOWEVER!!!

When I reattached the new spare HDD it now shows as follows:

    1. It now shows as two drives one in 100 MBs the other is 97.6 GBs??? Why

    2. everything on that HDD has been lost, why?

    Cheers in advance all

Does it shows as two drives or two partitions?
Can you attach a screenshot of what the drive looks like in computer management - Disk management

The 100MB partition is most-likely a Windows system yoke, left over from when it had an OS. All the data should still be on the bigger one.

here is the main screen of my computer. Everything is now gone and replaced by 2 the drives 1 is 99/7 MBs and the other is 97/5 GBs

when i installed the HDD it was 250 GBs

Initially my computer wouldn't factory reset and when i disconnected the spare 250 drive the computer let me factory reset. when i plugged in the spare 250 HDD i got not one but two drive and at far less then what it was. And nothing in the drive.

Looks like this drive has been formatted and split into partitions.
    Have you lost much data?
I'd have to see what disk management looks like to see exactly what's going on.

It's under the storage tab in computer management.

You may be able to get data back using recuva ,a free program. to downlaod
It recovers data from drives that have been formatted .
IT works best if the drive is drive d,or e.in a pc,or drive is placed in an
    external caddy.
You,ll need windows installed on drive c , to use it .https://www.piriform.com/recuva/download

You can do a scan for files ,
and then sort by mp3, pdf, avi etc
eg music or data files .
if you want to try to recover files do nothing to the 250gig drive.
do not format it or write any files to it .
To scan my 120gig sata drive ,it takes 4 hours approx.
As it scans it shows files found ,
    eg 400 files green ,
green icon beside file = easy to recover .
red icon = file damaged .
    it gives a list , mp3 1, 2,3 , etc
    pdf 1,2 ,3 etc avi 1, avi 2 ,avi 27 . file size 700meg

with the size of the file,
    eg pdf file 237 50 megabyte .

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2snu83jmmI

it recovered 95 per cent of files on my drive .
Some drives have a hidden partition ,8- 12 gig which contains a restore factory image of windows which is used to restore windows in the case of a virus or data lost on the main
partition for windows , on drive c.
