Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I have ranted about my mood swings, mood crashing through the floor seemingly unrelated to anything that's happened so i can empathise there, Shannon. I'd be more for reading when i'm down but of course that won't cut it all the time.. The DBT course i was on from the hospital was a lot about accepting the mood and observing it so it passes you rather than suffocating you. Hope the hospital is good to you on wednesday

People don't understand invisible illnesses a lot still. I wore my earphones a lot in school..

My physio said it's easier to just not explain it to them.

There's pros and cons to it all. I think people are very visual still, if they can't see something it's harder to believe it exists

Especially something so hard to explain

Yup. Complex regional pain syndrome sounds made up to me even years after diagnosis, it's been huge in my depression history too. Both invisible and terribly hard to keep fighting

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,847 ✭✭✭✭Shannon757

Sometimes I wonder why I bother to keep fighting.

Because there's family and friends and cars you haven't driven yet, girls or boys you haven't kissed, countries you haven't been in.. All that stuff. It sounds useless sometimes i know.. I think that's why a few on this thread seem to have been rooting for you recently

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,847 ✭✭✭✭Shannon757

I know. It's like a constant battle going on in my head.

Don't you hate it when people you don't know (or barely know) draw attention to your social awkwardness?

In the pub yesterday after a confirmation, fully sober obviously, there was a drunk old fella kept talking to me. Telling me I'd need to loosen up a lot "or you'll never find yourself a man", like that's the be all and end all. He kept telling me (really loudly) that I was gorgeous and a catch and all this stuff, but that I needed to stop being so "quiet and shy and pernickety", and then pointing out other women who were "great craic" and telling me to act more like them.

I was talking politely to him until he started on at that shite, but he wouldn't stop, which of course made me even more shy and awkward coz I knew I was being assessed and analysed - I hate that! I know I can't blame him coz he was old and drunk and all, but it's still so embarrassing.

    I hate socialising!

Ah but you can blame him. Old and drunk or not, he should know that what he said wasn't okay. Smart arsed replies often put people like that back in their box. "Eh thanks, but if I was looking for advice on how to make myself attractive to someone I wouldn't be asking you". Yeah, they'll start with the "ah f you, I was only trying to be nice" stuff, but they weren't trying to be nice; they were being opinionated pigs.
