Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Dynamo Kiev v Manchester City Leg 1

First leg of the champion league last 16 for City.

With Arsenal all but out and Chelsea not looking in great shape themselves, City could be the only English club in the Quarter Finals, something they have never achieved. This represent their best chance of doing so as previous last 16 rounds have seen them up against Barcelona and Bayern Munich, etc...

    Easy... nah!! this is City.

May be not much interest for this thread, but let see.

Man City XI: Hart, Sagna, Kompany (C), Otamendi, Clichy, Fernando, Fernandinho, Toure, Silva, Sterling, Aguero.

Dynamo Kiev XI: Shovkovskiy, Danilo Silva, Dragovic, Vida, Khacheridi, Rybalka, Garmash, Gonzalez, Buyalskiy, Yarmolenko, Teodorczyk.

Looks like Pellegrini has learnt from past mistakes and is packing the midfield.

    Prediction: 1-1 draw.

These are worse than Barcelona or Real Madrid for rolling around crying. Shocking

Really hoping for a City win. I'd love to see them at least make the semi-finals for Pellegrini's sake. I'd like to see him leave there with his head held high. I think a semi-final appearance would be enough for him to do that.

    Lucky Fernando, Toure started poorly.

Yeah, great start and they deserve to be 1-0 up already.

Not sure if its deserved but Kiev caught sleeping. No silly mistakes now and they can score again!

City can put this tie to bed in Kiev.

Kiev look wide open here and doing nothing going forward.

Plenty of goals here for City if they want them.

Yea they can Aguero close again.

Thought he should have scored it tbh.

Agreed, should be two up now. Competent display by us so far; no real defensive scares after Hart's parry on to the bar early on. But I'd expect Kyiv to press harder as the game goes on.

Sterling is regressing. I'm sure of it.

Kiev really are a poor outfit.

Replace Sterling with De Bruyne and it would be city's strongest side.

Yep; our poorest player so far, by a distance. He seems totally lacking in confidence.

I mentioned in the City team thread recently that Kyiv were a poor side and they shouldnt have got a chance to get out of the group with us, City can put this away and have a relatiely easy time back in Manchester if the get the right result tonight.

And there it is, Citys 2nd.

Could well go and get another 1 or 2 in the 2nd half and rest players for the 2nd leg.

This is 2 going on 5, and City don't even have to do much.

City look likely to be the only English side left in the competition at the moment. Arsenal wont turn around their game and I seriously doubt Chelsea will get the right result to send PSG out either.

You can imagine that Kiev are now feeling the effects of no proper football since early December.

No competitive matches in over 2 months and you have to play one of the best sides in Europe, madness.

Well now, lets not over-egg the situation...

Agreed. We could (should?) have at least 1 more goal; Auero when he was through in the inside left area. Hopefully get another goal or two to put the tie to bed, then play the young lads again in the second leg.

easy now. Am a City fan, but I wouldn't call us one of the best side in Europe. We are in the second/third tier of good teams, but there are at least 4 teams ahead of us at present.

I would count 6/7 at the most but that is still the top tier imo.

Kyiv beginning to press now. We need to be careful here, we don't want to end up doing what Bayern did last night.

Out of nothing it's 2-1, good finish with a deflection. City have been really good defensively and unfortunate to concede a goal like that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,725 ✭✭✭✭blueser

Stuffy goal, but Kyiv have upped their game since HT.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,113 ✭✭✭the whole year inn

Smart football by city ,try and knick one more if not then should beat them handy enough at home, going by tonights standard.

If we could scramble 1 more goal, I'd be fairly confident we wouldn't concede 3 at home to Kyiv. Which is what it'd take for us to go out.

    *edit* Cracking save by Joe.

How have City only scored twice here, they look like scoring everytime they get into the third half
