$1000 build for American friend

Hey guys,

My American friend in NY is looking to build/buy a decent gaming pc with the main reason being Arma 3.

He's currently gaming using an old Dell Inspiron 580 with some aftermarket parts:
GPU: Gtx 760
RAM: 2 x 8gb corsair vengeance pro 1866hz
PSU: Thermaltake 850w psu (not sure which model but I can find out if needed)

Rest is stock I assume & more than likely outdated.

He was looking at pre-built PCs on Newegg but I'd say he'd be better off building his own with some of the parts he already has. He has a copy of windows so that isn't needed.

Any help appreciated with build parts from american sites, thanks.

Edit: He wants to run cpu intensive games such as Arma 3, he was wanting to go i7 but I'm not sure if that offers much more in the way of gaming over an i5.

I'd go with this. It will run ARMA 3 like a dream. In terms of gaming performance, there's really no noticeable difference between the i5 6600k and i7 6700k. Included the cooler master hyper 212 so he can overclock it too.

This is my current setup (I've better ram), and for 1000 bucks - I don't see a better system build for him in terms of gaming and future-proofing his system. He can switch out the R9 390 for a GTX 970, but tbh I feel the 390 is a better card overall.

This is the power supply I have I would prefer to not buy a new one if this one is good enough to use with the parts you recommended.

Psu is grand. Try stick to nvidia with Arma. I have a 970 and game ultra at 1440p.

I am partial to nvidia since I do love shadowplay if and when i decided to record and with the GTX 970 4gb my build would be slightly cheaper.
