Wonder how likely it is Caribou will play anywhere else in Ireland while hes here ? i.e. if some club in Dublin will book him, dying to see him but dont know if i want to commit to this festival , especially if they have very strict drink policy's like not being able to bring your own booze in campsite.

Still waiting for the remaining acts to be announced before I take the dive. Really like the lineup so far.

Not for the summer anyway. Maybe late on in the year.

i cant find any clarification online weather or not strict booze policy's will be enforce this year, i.e. not being aloud bring your own booze to festival. this is a bit of a deal breaker.

Why does the poster look like it was made on microsoft paint?

It's looks like they sacked the designer! They've a brand new website and they're using updated social media graphics.

Hopefully it's a sign they are announcing more acts soon.

I suspect it'll be early in the week though as it is payday for a lot of people on Friday! I'm gonna bet tomorrow for the announcement.

This is looking pretty good at this stage. Saw Son Lux last year at EP, was excellent. Also Field Music is a great addition. er ... Steve Davis ... interesting.

Sadly I don't think i can make this this year.

I was there two years ago during the infamous washout and am considering giving it another chance this year. Apparently it's a new lay out etc. etc. I will have baby girl with me this year and what I'm wondering about is that it was listed in the Sunday Times Culture magazine as one of the best family friendly festivals in the UK and Ireland. It was definitely not family friendly the year I was there. Don't remember any family camping or any kind of kids area at all? Don't see anything about it on the website either. Anyone know?

Very surprised by this, the headliners are very impressive considering what acts they usually get to play. Is it still going to be a 3,000 capacity festival? Tickets are a lot more expensive, if they are still not allowing you to bring your own drink in it could be an expensive weekend, although I seem to remember the alcohol they had on sale there wasn't too expensive (wasn't a great choice though). More than likely going to go to this, massive coup by them to get Caribou.

    Add your reply here.

These are the sponsors at the bottom of the Splash page on the website so either they will be selling slabs like before or it will be BYOB to the campsite and these drinks on tap in the venue. I think the latter is more likely.

    Alcohol policy is up:

Full bars are open from 10AM to 10PM each day.
We are allowing some alcohol to be brought into the campsite only:
1 x crate of beer (cans) OR
750ml x spirits (decanted from glass bottle) OR
750ml x wine (decanted from glass bottle)
    No glass containers allowed
Excessive amounts of alcohol are not permitted on the campsite and anything over the above amounts will be confiscated.
The bars will be reasonably priced & cans from our off licence can be bought in bulk.

Nice to hear, didn't mind the fact that you weren't allowed bring alcohol too much because they sold cans at a reasonable price in there but this will make it a cheaper weekend. I presume they class a crate as 24 cans?

1st time going to Castlepalooza - can someone tell me are many of the stages in tents or are they all outside?

The last time I went, there was one tented stage, a courtyard area (no tent) and a main stage (no tent). And the castle itself had things on.

The added laughter lab this year is presumably in a tent. (or maybe this is not the first year)

Looking forward to seeing the new setup and enjoying some tasty beers from Galway Bay Brewery.

    Any lesser known "must listens"?

Last year I think it was two tents and two open air stages.

Don't know if they're lesser known, but apart from some of the headliners, am really looking forward to Slow Readers Club, a lot of good tracks on the album

Stage times are here. Are many people going? Haven't heard too much talk about it despite a pretty good line up. Last time I went in 2014 was an absolute wash out so hoping for a bit better this year.

Looking forward to the festival - first time going to it.
Been listening to some of the suggested bands above.
    Weather isn't looking great though:

So parking costs €15, is that right?

I'm planning to head down in a campervan but haven't managed to get a camper van ticket. Would I be right in thinking they won't allow us access the regular car park with it? We're only using it for the one night.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,833 ✭✭✭Alkers

You'll probably be fine but could ask for a camoervan ticket at the box office?

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,760 ✭✭✭Effects

Managed to blag into the campervan area without a ticket so all good. Regular car park was too mucky for campervans anyway!

Had a good weekend at Castlepalooza, definitely better than the last time I was there in 2014 anyway. It was a different set up than previous years, the campsite was on the other side of the castle which made it a lot easier to access from the car park, main stage was bigger than before too, which was needed as there were big crowds at both Caribou and Jurrasic 5 (I left on Sunday evening so not sure what it was like last night). I was surprised that there wasn't more at the festival, I'd guess there was only about 3,000 max at it, maybe Dublin City Block Party & Faithless impacted the crowd, it was nice though as it was easy to find your friends and you kept bumping into the same people over the weekend, none of the stages or tents were ever too crowded either.

Caribou and Jurrasic 5 were great headliners, both put on great shows, saw Get Down Edits, I am the Cosmos, Prins Thomas, Tiger & Woods and one or two others over the weekend who were all good too. The crowd was one of the nicest I've ever met at a festival and you could sit down and have a chat with anyone you came across all weekend, didn't see many scumbags at all either, I'd say security had an easy weekend compared to other events. Having said that, my bag got robbed from my tent on Friday night which put a bit of a dampener on the weekend, first time it's ever happened to me at a festival so maybe I was due some bad luck. Overall very enjoyable festival, although probably could do with a bit more stuff to do during the day, would probably go again next year if they get a similar standard of line up.
