Lost Hearing Aid Claim

    My friend lost his hearing aid and has been asked by the insurance firm it is covered under to

    1) Get a replacement quote from where he originally bought it from and
    2) Find out if he is entitled to a partial grant from Social and Family Affairs towards its cost?

    Is this standard procedure?

    Why would your 'friend' have a problem answering those questions?

    Say he bought the hearing aid three years ago for €600 and say the same gadget today costs €400 and say he is entitled to a grant every three years of €200. Without the insurance asking the questions they are asking, your friend could attempt to claim €600 off his policy when in reality the net cost of replacing the hearing aid will be €200.

    The policy probably includes a 'new for old' clause which assumes that the technology is coming down in price and the insurance company may also have factored in that the claimant is entitled to a grant for the replacement machine.

    The requests seem perfectly reasonable and something you should be able to find out pretty easily

    Agree with everyone else in here. Insurance companies, want to limit their liabilities. If they there is a state reimbursement scheme that will pay some of the replacement cost then they are perfectly entitled to limit their liability.
