Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Could you imagine the cabinet meetings in that? Ross, Boyd Barret, Donnelly, Mary Lou and Willie O'Dea!

    It'll never happen.

Can't see that happening, the AAA are comfortable in opposition, that's where they want to be, they never envisioned being in government because they would have to make good on policies that they could never implement, it's time they were put to bed for good.

Do people think Ireland is the only country in the world where the Left are petrified of the idea of power?

    Are they really that useless?

I don't think they'd even be able to reach a consensus on what biscuits to have with the tea and coffee, let alone anything else.......

Some left are credible, the loonies are not. Who in their right mind would go after Apple for 16 billion? Boyde- Barrett that's who, yeah point fingers at the MNC's. He represent's a particular section of society that don't work, he's a great actor in fairness, the Oscar goes to Murphy though, how he hood winked Jobstown, I'll never Know.

    A left-wing coalition that includes FF? :D

The delusion is strong in that one.

FF, the party that gave us Charlie McCreevy, the party that went into coalition with the PDs (and kept Mary Harney on as Minister for Health long after the PDs went the way of the dodo), the party that gave us Bertie 'I won it on the horses' Ahern, the party that gave us Charlie 'Charvet' Haughey, left-wing?

    Words fail me...

I'd give it a week, Martin would walk out and Donnelly would never run for election again.

Is it you that's using this phrase in what feels like practically all your posts? It's worse than hearing Fiscal Space repeatedly.

Everything changing in Dublin Bay North - John Lyons (AAA PBP) has benefited from his running mates (Michael O'Brien) elimination. He has overtaken McGrath, Broughan and Power. Aodhán still holding 4th place at them moment. Richard Bruton finally reached the quota - They are on the 8th count - Terence Flanagan next to be eliminated. Exciting stuff

Edit - Bruton just elected. 1st one home on the 8th count

The answer to that question is pretty much always "yes".

Any predictions? If I had to take a punt looking at whose left and where they might go I'd say we'll end up with 1 FF, 1 FG, 1 LAB, 1 IND and either 1 SF or AAA.

Over in Gods country, the final chance for Renua to hold a seat appears to be gone.

Billy Timmons is now 2,000 votes behind the 5th place TD with 1 more eliminated indie candidate to be redistributed.

Have you forgotten that Bertie re-invented FF as a socialist party after a weekend retreat on an island off the coast of Cork?

2,300 vote surplus from Pearse to be distributed, MacLochlainn has 1,050 or so to make up on Pringle.

Then about 9,000 Independent votes to be distributed which I don't think MacLochlainn will win significantly more than Pringle, I'd say it could be the other way as MacLochlainn hasn't done well on transfers.

This one could join Wexford and go into tomorrow. SF will ask for a full recount if it's very close, only a recheck was done today from what I've read.

If SF lose Donegal that will be a shock, with them not winning 2 in Cavan/Monaghan as well, do they have 2 anywhere else?

Front bench spokesman kept him away too much or something. Personally, I just don't like him and it would seem I'm not alone on that. Pearse picks up votes from everywhere.

    According to Dan O'Brien

"...it is theoretically possible that over the five year Dail term no Taoiseach is elected and that the outgoing cabinet remains in office."

    Also

"..the president can refuse to dissolve the Dail on the request of a Taoiseach who has lost his majority........and is entitled to continue saying no for as long as he wants."

However unlikely that is the Constitutional position.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43,311 ✭✭✭✭K-9

    That's mad.

MacLochlainn now about 800 ahead with over 9,000 Independent votes to be distributed over the next 2 counts. Needs to be a strong Independent transfer rate there.

She should go back to the Seanad since she, and her pal McDowell, spent so much time and effort trying to save it. FG are right to request a recount given the margins here, hopefully Zappone be gone afterwards. An utterly odious woman.

I disagree with you totally, she is a far better option for TD than that NIMBY supporting FG Witch.

If FF are sincere and true reform of the Dail were sought and accomplished whereby we would have rule by parliament rather than rule by government this could be a good thing.

Not a hope, I personally hope that FF and FG go in together, SF play the long grass, this will destroy Irish politics as we know it, SF will definitely rule the land in 2021 if this happens, picking up more votes in the bi-election on the way.

You think reform of the Dail is impossible?
