Michael Lowry getting elected so easily.

Christ, that's a scandal in itself.

Dublin-Rathdown has big casualties in their final results.

Alan Shatter, Alex White & Peter Matthews all out of the race.

It did go from a 5 to a 3 seater. Peter Matthews isn't a surprise, nor in the context of the overall election is Alex White. Shatter maybe.

IT reported earlier Jackie Cahill doing very well in Thurles.

I'm more curious as to why Enda and Martin insisted they wouldn't work together throughout the entire campaign and now FFG is considered the most likely govt formation by Gaelers and FFers. You might not be bothered by liars in govt but I, and many others, wouldn't be as happy.

Less of the "Gaeler" talk please.

Looks like FF will take 2 of the seats in Donegal with SF possibly losing 1 seat with dodgy vote management

Stunning result for her. Any word on how Eamonn Ryan is doing?

In a fairly tight battle for the last seat.

Inda about to be relected in Mayo - count announcing at the moment.

Edit - looks to have topped the poll

Is the SF spokesperson on Finance not so good with figures then? Can't blame Gerry on this.

Gap between FF and FG is now 0.2% for biggest party.

    This is shocking.

In fairness, it isn't that shocking.

2011 was the first time ever, that FG were a larger party than FF.
This is just the nations reversion to the norm.

FG are again, the once-in-a-generation dalliance to fix a few excesses & avoid being a 1 party state!

They'll hold two seats. Doherty P is nearly there and the other two have about 9k between them.

I really wish people would stop disparaging the electorate.

Those that engage in it just come across as looking on themselves as a superior class.

This is the only result that genuinely makes me angry. All we can hope for is that he gets more than 6 months in jail in his upcoming case and has to forfeit his seat.

FG have 3 of the 4 seats in Dun Laoghaire + Richard Boyd Barrett, but as For Forks Sake pointed out, one of the 3 FG seats was the Ceann Comahairle

Yep. The numbers still stack up. They shouldn't have run 3 but with 20k first preferences between them and the quota at 12k they can get the fifth seat.

Simon Harris & John Brady have been elected after the 2nd count in Wicklow.

That little annex of Dublin, known as 'Greystones' has returned 2 TDs today!

    Count is now adjourned.

McHugh should be fine with a fellow FG candidate transfers.

Gary Doherty of SF reckons he'll get geographical transfers from Independents and I can see his logic. Pringle might get a few SF transfers as ex SF but there's only really one local Independent in his area to be eliminated.

I reckon MacLochlain will get enough but G. Doherty snatching it would be funny!

Fianna Fail hit rock bottom at the last election so it was always likely they would rebound somewhat. It was a good election for Michael Martin obviously. His debate performances probably made a diffrence and helped their vote. However they are still a good bit off the 70+ seats they would have gotten not so long ago.
What happens next is the imponderable. If they go into government with FG it will blur the lines between them even more and could precipitate the long awaited left/right divide. If not they could be seen as abdicating responsibility.
I don't think it's good enough for any of the parties to say 'we can't go in with them'. There is no guarantee that a new election will produce a different result. I look forward to seeing what 'promises' they will all be able to keep.

Dublin West: Varadkar, Coppinger, Burton (LAB) and Chambers (FF) elected. SF made a bollocks of that one.
