    Apply for a job on Educationposts. Job swaps are temporary, five years max, with the agreement of both boards of management on a yearly basis.

    thanks mona, so say i get a permanent job in a school in dublin and see a job advertised for a teacher in limerick.
    Can I apply for the job in limerick and start the following september?

    There are a few different ways.

    If you are permanent, you can avail of the Temporary Teacher Transfer which is run through the INTO and you register with them in January. Like the other poster said, it's at the discretion of your board of management and you must re apply every year for up to five years. Be warned if you transfer this way, you will not get on the other counties' panel, you keep your seniority in your original school. At least you're getting your foot in the door of a school though.

    Another way is if you're permanent and your school is losing a teacher and that teacher is going on the panel, you agree to take that person's place on the panel and you may transfer your panel rights to a different diocesan panel at the permission of the bishop.

    Another way is to just keep applying for jobs through open competition and once you get a job, then hand in your notice at your original school. You'll need to work 3 years in a diocese to get back on the supplementary panel though.
