Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Looks good alright, a bargain if you were about to buy an older version.

There's also RPi clones, like "Banana Pi" which can be cheaper, but have slightly different hardware so they're not 100% compatible with the Pi, including different Camera modules.

But for anyone who needs more power, there's an Oct-Core Banana Pi for €82.90 here, with built in wifi, bluetooth and IR module for remote control.

      Banani Pi Oct-Core, 2Gb RAM

at the price you really cant go wrong with a Rpi but (and this is going to sound so selfish) if they had just bumped the RAM up to 2gb this would have elevated the Rpi3 into another stratosphere.

but again an absolutely brilliant piece of kit for the price with so many options and support out there.

liking the built in Wifi which frees up a USB.

Damn it , I have a pi 2 in the post ordered the other day and a wifi dongle, didn't think the 3 was being released for a while yet :(

The big question is, what emulators can it now run?

If you place this into basket and go straight to pay with PayPal it does not add the £3,50 postage, will they still send it I wonder?

They boot ytou back to the shipping stage to add the postage:(

Big fan of the Pis, had just gotten my Pi 2 back after lending it out but not sure if it's dead or the crappy SD card gave up.

On-board Wifi & Bluetooth a definite plus as well as some boost to CPU power, but more RAM would've been a preferable focus.

I use these guys for Kodi + emulation, which the Pi 2 handles sound for a lot of PS1 games I threw at it. Be interesting to see what devs can get with this, probably better N64 + Mame support........maybe even Dreamcast this time around.

Or during transport the little plastic lock flip switch on the SD Card got set to lock.

Or during transport the little plastic lock flip switch on the SD Card got set to lock.

It's a micro SD card with no lock switch, it's a cheap branded one anyways that's given plenty of trouble before so I'm certain that's what's wrong with it before even looking at Pi, I was just too lazy to dump it when I had it in use :pac:

Anywho, here's some benchmarks compared to the 1st & 2nd versions of the Pi. Seems to have quite an increase in CPU temps when you put it under pressure.

There's also the Orange Pi which is compatible with the RPi2.

Excellent bit of kit for the price, and it does work, but I just don't yet fully trust the H3 Chips. They seem to have been a bit of a rush job. But for €13.60 or whatever, the OrangePi PC (version) is excellent.

Screw it I can't resist the new one even with pi 2 modlel b in the post , can anyone recommend any of the cases on that site? Been looking in other places over the weekend and some of the commentary suggests I need to take care with cases as many are ill fitting or ports dont line up and some cases are blocked.

Got the Flirc case off Amazon with parcel wizard delivery, fits fine and has heat sink.
Think it came from Pi Hut.
Edit: I see it's gone up to £20 now, was £15 on Amazon when I got it.

      So no is the answer.

Just a quick tip for anyone planning to run kodi on a pi - a USB install (just Google it) runs much faster and I've never had any issues with SD card corruption. Also CEC rocks although needed to remap a few buttons.

I've had pi 1+2 and I've made Lego cases for both. If it's in an elevated position and falls the Lego takes the impact and just pops apart, with a rigid case you might get port or pin damage

Search for it. I was not aware that they excluded VAT, there goes that :(

The plastic casing on my Pi + and Pi 2 has broken the micro sd card when i attempted to remove it - the sd card was snapped, happened on 3 occasions. I know now how to avoid this. may post a picture here of what happened.

Yeah they are more for the trade but sell to average Joe too, the shipping from them is excellent though , think it's 4.40 and sent by TnT on the last few bits I got from them.

Yea they are mostly aimed at trade, used to always go into the "shop" with my Dad when I was younger!

Can't fault the delivery though but with VAT the Pi 3 is ~€50 unfortunately.

This is true for the rpi 1, but not so much for the pi2 and the new pi3.

The latter two can run fine with just the SD card install as they've increased RAM.

Always been interested to see what the hypes all about.

Bought one but don't really know what I'll do with it.

Something around gaming but other than I'll have to do a lot of googling.

Definately gonna build a Lego case though!! :-)

Got an 8 gb noob card to go with it. Probably way too small but will give me an idea what I'm working with.

Where's the cheapest place to get a power supply. The official one was sold out on pi hut.

      Cheers op... I think.

Its a standard 2A phone charger with a micro usb. You can buy them anywhere really.
Looks like they're back in stock: http://thepihut.com/collections/raspberry-pi-power-supplies/products/micro-usb-power-supply-for-the-raspberry-pi

Was going to say this. Otherwise you will get a little rainbow in the corner all the time of the power isn't perfect

Got a decent one there I think/hope on Amazon a minute ago.

      Also ordered:

      HDMI cable
      Usb keyboard
I have a usb mouse at home somewhere
And I'm going to house the pi in Lego.

And I bought this from Amazon as well I might add as they ask for stupid money in shops.

      http://www.pcworld.ie/Mobile/Product/aoc-i2369vm-full-hd-23-ips-led-monitor-with-mhl/315442/397.1.0

So what originally was a small outlay has now cost me in the region of €260 total.

I'll have a nice wee setup all the same. Lol.

I plan on using the monitor for regular pi stuff and also a bit of gaming from my ps4.

Had been contemplating one. For a while and the pi purchase just commented the idea.

I like this particular monitor as it has two HDMI ports and speakers (as terrible as I'm sure they'll be).

I can use it for streaming from my iPad etc for the odd footie game or cartoons for the kids, etc..

I know it's not the fastest gaming monitor out there but it'll do me grand.

Going to see if i can build a dual boot with kodi and retropie
