Anyone know if they have these at Dublin Airport?

    €33 in the airport.

    Cheers.

Many but not all Dunnes have them@35 euro. If U have a 10 off 50 voucher (buy 15 of beer or alternative!), the potstill set works out at 28 euro!

Yep, and it's been reduced by a fiver a number of times in the recent past during whiskey events in Dunnes - an effective price then of just €24 when using a Shop & Save voucher.

Cheers, $250 was the best I could find as well. Any idea if there'd be taxes/import costs associated with ordering it from MoM or similar?

I've never been hit with it. But the duty rate exists for importers.

Just getting into the whole whiskey thing recently, picked up a bottle of Black Barrel and Three Swallows, then moved on to Redbreast 12, guy in the Celtic Whiskey Shop recommended Glendronach 12, really nice.

Jameson Caskmates IPA 70cl 25 euro

    Paddy 1 litre 25 euro

    Bushmills 10 Years/Jameson Black Barrel 70cl 30 euro

Black barrel is a wonderful whisky for the price, will be getting a bottle tomorrow....great for a midweek drop after work ;)

Yeah I've only opened a new bottle of it but at that price it's a no brainer to get another!

Yep, picked a bottle up for an effective price of €24 in Tesco a little while ago, courtesy of the €10 off €50 voucher in the Sindo (with some groceries to make up the €50 spend).

For anyone in Tralee, well worth popping over to Manor now as there were still plenty of Sindos in stock and just one bottle of Black Barrell on the shelf after I helped myself!

A few bottles of Bushmills 10YO and Jameson Caskmates Stout on the shelves as well. For some reason, the discounted prices aren't displayed - probably for the better though!

Picked up another bottle of Teeling revival series IV yesterday, it's a beautiful whiskey, and fast becoming a fave

    Do you like IPA?
The Whiskey is lovely, quite light refreshing nose, grapefruit taste and a hops influence too.
Goes very well paired with a Chieftain IPA

opened my first red breast 12 last night.

So disappointed. Gets great reviews everywhere. But personally I thought it was fairly harsh. Not smooth at all.

Ill go back tonight to sample again, but wasnt impressed at all

    What would you normally drink?
And how did you try it, neat, ice, water?

I'd always try neat first, then with a drop of water to open it up an bit.
However if you're not used to the Pot Still style it will take a bit of getting used to.
It was one of my first purchases a few years ago and I, like you, wasn't too impressed when I had it first. I then tried a few more whiskeys and came back to it.
Only then did I appreciate it fully.

    tried it neat.

My regular/affordable drinking whiskey would be kilbeggan.

My nice regular drinking would be paddy gold label (really like that after a bottle lately)

Fond of yellow spot too on occasion.

Have drank every type/variation of jameson known to man. Soft spot for all things jameson.

A non whiskey drinking friend recently gave me an un-opened bottle of 2007 Midleton Very Rare. It was gifted to him, and he figured it'd be wasted on him, so gave it to me.

I haven't opened it yet. It's going top shelf for a special occasion ;)

Nice one. Free whiskey is always nice. But a free bottle of Middleton is a step above.

Ah the famous 2007, they were all contaminated with some cleaning chemicals... absolutely undrinkable...the bottle and packaging itself is all that's worth anything...shame.....I'll give you €30 for it ?

He speaks the truth about the liquid, undrinkable stuff! I personally collect bottles for the labels so i can offer €35, and just take it off your hands. Save you alot of hassle. Its purely for the packaging of course!

    :D

    Anyone try Lambay Whiskey?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,927 ✭✭✭beardybrewer

Great deals in Tesco atm before the holiday weekend. Wanted to pick up a Connemara and Caskmates but they were both sold out so left with a Bushmills 10 (green label) and Jameson Black Barrel to do Patrick's Day right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 926 ✭✭✭G rock

I've had a black barrel - liked it - but would you recommend, say Bushmills 10 or cask mates over it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,997 ✭✭✭Adyx

In work (again) so I'm also having a Black Barrel. Black Barrel is nicer than the Stout Caskmates which is itself nice than the IPA Caskmates. It's all very subjective though.

Used up the last of a voucher from Christmas in O’Briens. Powers 3 swallows and a Writers Tears Red Head Single Malt. That’ll do me for a while, both very nice.

Yep, good choices, 3 swallows is becoming one of my go-to bottles at the moment, really enjoying it.

The OH loves Writers Tears, very easy drinking

Got some of the WT Red Head at Christmas. Very tasty alright.

Tescos - Black Barrel and Caskmates IPA for 55euro, and then 10 off that thanks to Dunnes, so basically got the caskmates for free!
Not had caskmates IPA before, so looking forward to trying that over the weekend. BB is a stable and one of my favourites

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,505 ✭✭✭irlirishkev

Regular Bushmills only 20euro in Dunnes at the moment.
That beats Tesco who usually have it for 21euro.

  • Registered Users Posts: 114 ✭✭Apollinaris

    Has anyone heard/ordered from

    https://irishspirit.com

website? They have a bottle in stock what I’m after a long time but something is fishy about it or just me being too cautious? Any feedback on them greatly appreciated!

    Irish? Scotch? Bourbon? Japanese?

There is no single answer to that question.

Tesco Galway was wiped of everything on the "above standard" whiskey level by lunchtime today. Connemara, bush 10, black barrell, caskmates and roe &co. Hopefully tomorrow or Sunday fare better with stock.

    a) I don't know why you did the rolleyes when you're asking for help

    b) what relevance does what you drink have when buying a present for someone? It's what they drink that matters

I specifically gave you ideas about different types of whiskey to open up different possibilities of what you might want to buy. Absolutely no need to be a tit over things.

So far I'm not hugely impressed with the Bushmills 10. It already has such a sweet honey flavour and perhaps the bourbon casks just make it sweeter not deeper? I'm a huge fan of Bushmills original (white label) and often splurge for a black label which is markedly the best of the three in my opinion.

Haven't had a Caskmates for a while so can't compare back to back. I'm really enjoying the Black Barrel which is superior to the Bushmills 10 by far.

Another one I was thinking of was John's Lane.

Had a bottle recently and really liked it. Lovely presentation box too.

As it is s gift I kind of would like a nice presentation as much as the whiskey being decent.

Is the box a new thing for John's lane? I never got a box with any bottle I've purchased. Granted it's been awhile since I bought one.

It's been two years since I had mine. Came in a lovely box with fold out presentation leaflet all about the history of the whiskey
