Samsung UE22H5600 wifi issues

Hi, I just purchased this little TV - intending to use it as a TV and second screen for my laptop.
This is my first smart TV, but anyway I am VERY SURPRISED thst the TV is dropping connection every so often (e.g. every 10 minutes it goes searching and then eventually it drops it) while streaming Netflix for example.

    Any thoughts?

My network is good btw, it is Virgin (ex UPC) 240MB and it does not drop either on my laptop or on my phone, so it is obviously this TV thing.

Is this "fixable", is it this model issue, or is it an issue of this particular TV I got so that replacement would help.

    Thanks a lot!

How far is the TV from the UPC box and are you connecting via 2.4 or 5 GHz Wi-Fi? 2.4Ghz is slower but would be a more reliable connection for example if the TV is upstairs and the UPC box is downstairs. When I use my Apple TV in the bedroom where it connects via Wi-Fi, it says the 2.4 GHz signal strength is 5/5 while the 5 GHz signal is 4/5 so I always connect using 2.4 GHz.

    Same room, 4m apart.
    2.4 I think.

You said 'while streaming Netflix for example.' Does the problem occur when accessing other streaming services?

Hi coylemj, I so far only tried Netflix and RTE player. I noticed this mostly on Netflix, but yes I see where you are coming from so i will test other apps to determine if it is wi-fi or Netflix issue for example.

There appears to be an issue with Netflix and Virgin Media/UPC which conspiracy theorists claim is down to VM strangling the signal to stop Netflix users hogging the internet bandwidth.

This thread was started on Jan 11th last in the 'Talk to.... Virgin Media Ireland' forum, it's title is 'Netflix issues' and so far it's had 1,400 posts .....

Have a Samsung Smart TV myself. Had the same issues with wi-fi, ended just having to have it wired direct to the router.

Hi coylemj and Chris, yes it seems it is either Netflix issue or of this TV, I am not sure, but other wi-fi services seem to work ok so far?

I posted in that thread you suggested, thanks for pointing that out to me. Not sure it will be resolved though so it seems I will just have to accept that paying 300 euro for a TV will not let me watch Netflix - which is one of the reasons I bought it ..otherwise I may have just buy a plain PC screen...

Btw I ordered a Skype TV camera few days ago (it is not yet dispatched) so just wondered if anyone had issues with the Skype & wi-fi also?

I can still cancel the camera that is a bit dear (60 euro)

You would have been better off buying the non-Smart version (UE22H5000) of that TV (it's now €178 in Argos) and investing the difference in a TV box like an Apple TV, the 3rd gen. model is still available for €79. The whole Smart TV thing is a con. as far as I'm concerned, the manufacturer will stop releasing software updates for the TV after a couple of years following which the functionality will gradually diminish as the various apps stop working.

I use Skype but have a camera built-in to the laptop so have never used an external camera. If it's a decent make it should work ok.

Yes I suppose I would, but is a little late now. I ordered it via LittleWoods website and they say a return for a refund may be made only before you connect the device.
Which is a bit odd cause how will you know if it works or not just based on a visual inspection..
