Here's the London route for the IWD Run Through History run. I made it to London and joined in.

Good run too, finishing in the pub in Clerkenwell where Lenin and Stalin hung out...

Perhaps IWD 2017 will see a run in Dublin...:)

It would have been very apt for the year that was in it perhaps:

From the 1916 Proclamation: "The Republic guarantees religious and civil liberty, equal rights and equal opportunities to all its citizens.."

This was guaranteeing universal suffrage (complete right to vote) if a Republic came to be. This wasn't just words on a parchment as the position had been pre-agreed between women's groups/suffragettes and the leaders of the rising. (6 of the 7 signatories signed an agreement, the 7th was later persuaded). This was granted in the constitution of the new Free State. The radicals were dead and gone, however, and the conservative Catholic element who took over power from the radicals soon enacted a series of legislation to regress things. De Valera's constitution copper fastened this although it was liberal compared to what had transpired before.

That really was an amazing decade all those years ago. Not many Irish people realise what Irish women won for themselves with Irish independence and what was subsequently robbed from them. Those women should be honored.

A race to celebrate them would have been brilliant. (Perhaps I should have looked into it). Commerative T-Shirt for all finishers!

Brilliant idea. Why not celebrate Irish women's contribution to sport with a run on the next 2017's IWD?

Irish woman runs a record 106 marathons in one year

    There's one in June. It's called the Women's Mini-Marathon.

That's not what we're talking about. Do keep up.
