BSc Paramedic Studies - UL - 2016 Entry

UL have quietly announced their school leavers undergraduate paramedic degree. Applications through CAO for entry in Sept 2016.

It says in the brochure that "Applicants must also have a full, clean B and C1 driving
license or a licence of an equivalent standard from another country." Does this mean that leaving cert students will have to get a C1 driving license prior to starting the course in September??

Also, does anyone know if UCD will be doing this course (starting in Sept 2016) also? All that is mentioned on their website is: "UCD Centre for Emergency Medical Science are planning an Honours Degree - Bachelor of Science EMS (BSc EMS). The start date is yet to be finalised. Entry paths for school leavers, mature students and existing emergency services staff, and recognition of prior learning are also being determined at this stage. The syllabus and admission criteria will be posted on this website as soon as it is available. Please check back regularly."

If anyone who is involved in/knows anything else about the above could expand on it I'd be very grateful!!

Yeah it means you will need the FULL B (car) and C1 (light lorry) licence to get accepted.

However, it's going to be very hard or near impossible for somebody to get you lessons and a rent out a C1 lorry, unless you live in Dublin but even then I don't know. Hardly anywhere specifically does them because there's no demand. Nearly everyone has to just get the full C which has an age limit of 21 years for learner permit, unless you've done the CPC, then you can only get it at 18 years old.

    To maximise potential exposure compulsory
    emergency ambulance placements for Year
2 are based in the United Kingdom.

I know there has been lots of talk about when this would go the cao route but it just seems like the usual Irish way of making an arse of things. 4 year programme and you finish as a paramedic at the end, and need to go to the Uk to do your ambulance placement!

You'd be as well just going to college in the Uk to begin with, 3 year's there and a similar skill set to what an AP would be here, get work up your hours for the next year in the UK and then apply to phecc for recognition of qualification
