Lens Soft Focus When Fully Zoomed

I use a "Nikkor ED 80-200 f2.8 lens (here) for Sports photos and recently when fully zoomed in, it will not focus sharply. It is fine at nearer distances. I think this may be some problem with the focus limiter. Would be grateful for any help, as I cannot find any solutions by Googling. Thanks.
