Graphic Design Internship (Advice Needed)

Hey guys. I'm looking for some advice.

Basically, I've been a designer for 8+ years, though only 4 years have been full-time in house work. Other 4 years being freelance work.
I've two relevant degrees, a huge list of references, a good portfolio, and a solid CV.

I recently went to an interview with a big studio. They said they were impressed with my work, and that I interviewed very well. Also they were interested and impressed by my web design work, as they want to begin to offer this service.

I got an email last Friday saying that they hired someone else due to his experience working with a similar sized company.
However, they asked if I would be interested in an internship with them. They didn't give anymore info, other then the fact I'd need to be on social welfare.

I'm not sure what to make of this myself. I've never done an internship before. Can anyone offer some advice on what the best course of action is?
I personally feel I've gone well past the internship stage of my career, but maybe someone else can shine some light on the subject for me.

Any and all advice is appreciated, as I'm lost here...

Yup, you're well past that stage I'd reckon too.
Park that and move on to the next one would be my advice.
