Dang looks like I ordered it at just the right time so. Ordered it from Smyths online last Monday and it arrived on Tuesday.
Sadly I haven't been able to find the move controllers anywhere but the dual shock controller works just find with it

So ya wouldn't say move is essential right away?

I could stand paying 500 for headset and camera but 130 for two more controllers!?

I wouldn't say it is essential right away. I will admit there are games where it would be easier to have them like the London Heist etc but you can manage without them. I did have to reset the position of my controller a few times but all it takes is hitting hte options button and moving it to where it shows in front of you.

Ya long term I'd like to use the move for best experience but surely the prices will go down on them.

I've no move controllers either and manage just fine. I would like a set but not paying €80 for them.

Yeah the cost of move controllers is ridiculous, how many years old are they now?..

At least if they came up with new controllers that perform better or use micro USB it would be understandable that they had to make more, but there's no change at all in the technology or the look of the controller itself...

Not sure but if they where going to add new battery they would have changed to micro USB charging ? Considering that's what the PS4 controllers use...

So how do you charge them anyway?

  • Registered Users Posts: 144 ✭✭dexter_morgan

Why are the stock levels so low for the move controllers? They are selling for big money on eBay. It is easier to get hold of the VR headset!

Using the old PS3 cables for dualshock 3...

Someone started a thread on reddit about ruining lenses by cleaning with some alcohol wipes. Be careful I'd say and stick to cloth provided unless somebody else has found anything else that works.

Ive been using the cloth but just doesnt seem to be doing the job properly. Seems to be smudges still on the lenses. Maybe if i use my breath first to fog them up and then wipe clean

Just picked up a game called Nesbet or something for 7euro feels like a demo more than a game to be fair, no trophies no nothing but it does look great in VR... Feels like this game lasts 5-10mins worth of enjoyment... Would definately avoid...

Also picked up Pixel Gear it looks great... Think it got good reviews too and trophies to be had it was 11euro but it's something like 9euro with PS+ ...

Wonder will PS+ ever add PS VR titles...

So anyone else who has tried this find that the resolution simply isnt there yet?

Dont get me wrong, its a lot of fun and its really immersive, but i can honestly wait til the 2nd gen of VR headsets to come out.

That was my impression when I tried it in Dame Street, it was like early PS3 reolution at the best of times, mostly PS2 resolution and even PS1 resolution at times.

The luge game was the worst offender clarity wise and tilting your head for analog movent was awful, felt like a kinnect kind of gimmick, so hopefully less titles will use that as input.

I remember it took me about 5 minutes to realise there was numbers above enemy ships in Eve Valkriye it was so pixelated and god only knows what those numbers were!

Does the advanced calibration improve the resolution or is it merely headttracking?

Btw, i got to play with the headset for over a half hour due to the Playstation rep being too busy chatting to other reps, which i am really thankful for!

My friend only got to try London Heist and was booted off! Lol

It will be interesting to see how the PS Pro improves fidelity.

TLDR: You're right about the visual quality and you'll find the PCVR options, Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, also have similar iissues. More waffle below.

These issues have been openly discussed during their entire development as people demoed them and shared their opinions which gave me good reason to temper my expectations. It's unfortunate that newcomers to VR may hear some happy hyped people and think the image quality must be mindblowingly awesome, or they may expect quality at least as good as the AAA games on PS4 and XBox.

Going from 2D games like Space Invaders to 3D games like the original '80s Battlezone - this was a big step in changing the experience of playing a game and your feeling of the gamespace. I played flight simulators (Stealth Fighter) and racing games (Stunt Car Racer) with 3D wireframe graphics on my Commodore 64. The framerate was terrible even compared to 2D platformers of the time, but the experience was so much more real than say a standard 2D racer where small sprites get bigger to indicate changing distance. Similarly, going from standard 3D games represented on a TV or monitor to VR games is a big step in changing the your experience of the game and your feeling of the gamespace. You can now be surrounded by your tank cockpit in Battlezone and literally crane your neck looking for flying enemies. The visual quality compared to Uncharted is significantly lower across all VR platforms, but the great feeling of playing Uncharted is not the same as the great feeling of a VR character invading your personal space in the Resident Evil Kitchen demo, or, in Drive Club, physically looking to your right, seeing the inside of your car and out through the passenger window as your competitor's car slides backwards almost scraping yours when you finally overtake them. There have been detractors of Drive Club's graphics, and I understand the reasoning, however, like original Battlezone or Stunt Car Racer on the Commodore 64, the change in experience is worth the sacrifice in graphics for me.

Future iterations of VR headsets will no doubt be better in all regards. I'm still glad I played the original Playstation instead of waiting for PS2. I'm glad to play PSVR instead of waiting for PSVR2.

Pretty sure it's a limitation of the screens in the headset so the Pro will make **** all difference to it.

Pretty much this. VR is going to go through "generations" as consoles have. This is 2nd gen (?) (1st gen would have been the Lawnmower-man setup I recall playing as a wee tike in Picadilly Circus, London about 16 years ago!).

But in 4 years or less we'll have a 4K version, plus better haptic suits etc.

So I'm happy buying this knowing I am an early adopter, but it will certainly become dated in a few years.

I think the screen in fine to be honest. Not as crisp as a hdtv. I think the problem is the console isn't powerful enough to put out games at the same level as they have to do so much more with the game. Driveclub is probably the best example. They have to simplify the graphics to get the game to run at the higher frame rate and let the game cope with the player looking in all directions.
I found the screen blurry at the start but now the second I stick it on it's all clear(most of the time).
It did take me a while to realise that I had to look straight and turn my head to look around rather than moving my eyes which looks at the blurry sides of the screen designed to mimic normal vision apparently.

Been doing a lot of reading on differing opinions on the headset and it looks like the difference in the actual VR itself is minimal between this and the Oculus Rift or the Vive, they can also suffer from some resolution issues it seems. But the biggest issue that seems to keep popping up in what I read is that the tacking is awful, the camera keeps losing the head set and this causes "wobbles" in the game which I'd imagine would be very disorientating, in addition to this it can't track the move controllers if you turn around in game.

Some seem to not mention this or say the tracking works fine and others say it completely ruins the entire experience, how has the tracking been for people here? I was almost convinced to get one but the tracking issues are extremely off putting.

I've played a few hours and tracking has been pretty good.
Had to recentre the headset once.

It did loose the controllers a few times.

Haven't noticed this at all to be honest? I definitely noticed the resolution alright but as I said before, a good game negates this. But I've yet to experience any "wobbling".

Such a great post. As a 40 year old gamer who started with the Atari 2600 many years ago, this post really sums up how I feel PSVR.

What also interesting is that my wife also loves it. I've tried over the
years to get her interested in games but she was never too bothered . 5 mins with the PSVR has blown her mind :) .

I've had to adjust the camera once but otherwise the head tracking has been fine. The Move controllers went a bit wonky for Rush of Blood in one play session where the characters wrists started turning at odd angles but i literally just moved myself slightly to the right between levels and that completely fixed it.

I've seen a few people complain about tracking on here and on other forums so it is clearly an issue for some but it has been fairly minimal for me.

I had a one time issue with the "wobbles" but recalibrated the camera and it went away. For my setup it's not an issue.

Just wasted 20euro on a crap game called Kismet and then a game that apparently requires move controllers Pixel Gear ... Now I can't really do anything and Move is sold out everywhere apparently and can't afford the price right now...

I thought the VR had DS4 compatibility for all games when it was released... A shooter should definitely support DS4...

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,801 ✭✭✭iamtony

Only compant I have is not being able to watch stereoscopic porn on it. There I said it! They better sort that quick or I'll be so buying a gaming PC and an oculus or vive :-0
