and make sure you know what it is and what you need to do to use it before you buy one!!

Are they clearing these out as the new Core is available from the Wetek site from the 25th?

Not sure what the Core does that the Play doesnt assume more processor power and higher res for netflix but the Play does come with a tuner while the Core doesnt

10 euro shipping makes it 79 euro which is still a good deal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,766 ✭✭✭RossieMan

It's not the play for anyone buying, so you don't get the extra "perks".

Does this box double up as a satellite tuner and Android device? It looks like it should but I am not tech savvy enough to be certain.

No, it is an android box only, requires an internet connection

Wrong, it comes with either a twin sat or terrestrial tuner depending on what version you choose at checkout.

Which what? This is this one type.

Different tuner options available depending on what you want if for.

I highly suggest reading the thread on it, so not buy it if you don't understand basic terms. Its not plug and play, requires set up.

Me too - heart is still racing!

They should be sued for a misleading advert like that :)

It's not as easy as plugging in your sat dish and away you go, there is a lot of configuration, I'd suggest reading the posts from the group buy page.

This seems to be an offer for elitists only, maybe you might have the thread title changed to include "no commoners allowed". It's no harder than a Raspberry Pi to setup! Does everybody expect everything on a plate now?

Well the group buy thread was a wash with people who hadn't a clue what they were buying, let alone how to set them up. People were expecting a plug and play android kodi box and that's not what this is exactly. There is some setting up required depending on your requirements. (android, kodi,enigma2)

God damn it, I couldn't resist. The tinkering is always my favourite bit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,066 ✭✭✭jakdublin

I got one of these and while I know my way around Kodi, this was a real challenge to set up. Took me about six weeks but now I have exactly what I was hoping for - a single box that streams online content, streams local media and lets me watch and record the free tv channels from my Sky dish. Will be adding Saorview later when I get a decent ariel. I'm delighted with it. Well worth the money if you enjoy tinkering, but be prepared for some frustration along the way.

€69 including delivery not €79, where's the best guide for setting one up? I presume it runs kodi well?

Never had to contact WeTek about an order but their representatives on the WeTek forums are very good. Might not do any harm posting on there too.

Correct €69 delivered. Basically look over on the WeTek forums, lots of guides. All images for the WeTek play can be flashed on this. It comes with openelec preinstalled but you can install android or enigma2 images on it too. You can also flash images to micro SD card so you can run one OS along side another.

    USB 2.0: (no USB 3.0)
    HDMI:1x (no HDMI 2.0)
Thank you, I just conceded defeat and bought one for EUR70.
When Acqueos was running the group buys, I couldn't get myself to pull the trigger given this box comes with only a Amlogic S8726 processor & Mali 400 graphics processing unit .

I've being holding out for an Amlogic S912 & Mali 830 but my patience are shot! Perhaps for the main TV, I'll get a box with am Amlogic S912 when it's released, this box is perfect for a second TV for only EUR70. So, I'm happy out, thank you OP.

One has a twin dvb-t2 tuner that can be used to pick up saorview with a aerial. The other, more popular option is the twin dvb-s2 option that can be used with a satellite dish. Everything else is the same between them.

I was trying to figure it out and found this DVB-S2 (satellite) or DVB-T/T2/C (cable/terrestrial) but your reply made it easy to understand :) cheers

    Bought one yesterday too!
Had the same error after PayPal but they got back within 20 mins after I sent them a message, must be a known issue.

It'd worth for kodi. But you'd be better off with something else. Its the tuner that's the real selling point.

So they don't have a device with both DVB-T and DVB-S tuners? Doesn't seem ideal for Irish users, you'd have to choose between getting RTE or BBC!

Nobody ever claimed it was a combo box. Although you can buy a usb terrestrial tuner for next to nothing and make it a triple tuner combo.

Interesting. Has anyone got a USB DVB-T dongle working for this or any other android device?

A simple Google will show you all. You can easily get the Irish channels without the need for another tuner. Not to be talked about here.

The m8s has the better hardware(RAM, flash memory, dual channel wifi) to be fair http://www.androidtvboxes.ie/product/m8s-android-tv-box-fully-loaded-quad-core-2gb-ram/ but at EUR120 is almost twice the cost AND has no satesatellite /terrestrial tuner.
So, at EUR70 this is a better deal.
