    Hi All
    I am a 40 year old woman, looking for my first car, 1L - 1.1L around 04 - 06.
I know nothing about cars and would like to know what people wld recommend.

I like the look of a opel corsa or Peugeot 206 but some have said Peugeot are not the best to drive. :( & I'm not interested in a micra.

i wld grateful for any advice as I am just stressed about what to buy as I have saved really hard and want something that will give me my moneys worth !!

    TIA ;)

Volkswagen Polo? New or 2nd hand and is it mostly for long journeys or just local runs?

The 206 is generally good to drive. Peugeot cars handle well. Their electrics are awful though and can cause problems/be difficult to diagnose. They over develop fan issues too.

The Corsa isn't a bad car. Neither is the Polo that's mentioned above. Have a look at a Fiesta too.

I would say Yaris. Bit more expensive than the others mentioned but very reliable and easy to drive. I have a 05 Fiesta myself but they are a 1.25 litre, so small bit bigger. Mine hasn't let me down, great car!

    I don't know why you're discounting a Micra.

For god's sake take someone with you, preferably a mechanic, who can check the car out for you. There are plenty of lemons out there of every make.

Aw I think they look kinda cute to be fair. The K13 on the other hand is a horrendous looking thing.

OP, Fiesta, Corsa, Yaris etc are all fine starter cars. The Yaris Mk I is a firm favourite of the motoring forum.

I like K10 and K11 pre-facelift Micra's. K11 facelift is still acceptable but I think it all went downhill in terms of design after that.

Fiestas and Polo's are nice. Yaris is a decent car. Not a fan of the Corsa at all though.

Two thousand would mean that if you're lucky then you may be able to get a Fiat Panda, a really fantastic little car. Some options to consider:

    Clios are great little cars:

Punto- brill little car, just make sure to find one not owned by a boy racer:

    Corsa, boring but good:

    Yaris:

    Polo:

Fiesta's are a great car but check for rust:

Would be hard to find a 04-06 car with that budget. My 05 fiesta was 2700 last year. Remember to try and haggle! Clios would be a good option. Renault cars do not have a great name, however the Clio seems to be the exception. Insurance is also low on them compared to other cars. The quotes I was getting for clios were about 300-400 euro cheaper!
