Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I find avast free is decent but you get the odd annoying pop-up trying to get you pto buy it.
Might take a look at Sophos

    Thanks OP. Great bargain!

Did you type the code "renew5" into the box where it says something like "Apply code" and then click on apply code?
That's all I did to get it down to £1.99

Oh yeah I meant to say Sophos won't spam you with annoying popups. Interface is professional.

I don't know if it applies here, but make sure you're not signed up for auto renewal next year and end up paying full whack. Happened me, I got mine last year with paypal and then noticed something on paypal account this year and turned out it was Kaspersky automatic renewal. It's a great deal you found OP and a highly recommended product.

Great find op ,already using it and mine was up in September so early renual at a great price.

Why is the sign up asking me for my banking number.

Hmm.. I'm using BitDefender Total Security 2016 myself. There seems to be little between it and the Kaspersky offering, but the multiple device/platform option being offered here is tempting as that's an extra on my sub.

    Worth switching?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 801 ✭✭✭mydiscworld

    It's 34.99 when I go here?!

you get £5 off with that code

I'm on same but multi device. Usually switch between it and this depending on offer. Both are consistently at top of independent rankings.

I know bout the free ones and all that jazz but at these prices why bother..

Well I got a discount code for BitDefender on one of those steam discount sites this time round and it's multi-device but not multi-platform so Android would be extra (and full price)

Still, as you say at this price it's a no brainer so I've installed this on both my laptop and phone and worst come to worst I can always switch back easily :)

Have licences for panda and bitdefender myself but found both were chugging on windows 10 (machine is 2014 i3, 8gb ram, ssd). Kaspersky installed now no noticable slowness.

My Norton has just run out and I'm plagued with popups looking for renewal so thanks to OP for this. £1.99? Wow!

    Anything in the event logs.

    Description:
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

Good point, having just bought this I logged onto my account using the a/c no. and password in the email I got and it seems that it's a manual renewal, thanks.

Seems the offer is expired. That's why I bought two years instead of a 30 day trial

    No issues and running smoothly.

And what are the messages in the event log just before that happened?

Its likely there are few more. Can you take a screenshot (hit Windows key, type 'snip' until the snipping tool comes up and use that for the screenshot) of the events that occur in the list within 1 minute of the shutdown.

    it'll look something like this:

quarryman-thanks for all the trouble you are going to.

i am winging it however. I dont quite understand -do you mean more events or that there should be more information on the original posted event?
There were 5 reboots/critical events yesterday but none today so far today, touch wood.

Do you have another antivirus installed at the same time? What antivirus were you using before. Have you got any storage drivers installed like in Intel accelerator etc. I would also run system file checker. A rootkit can generate access violation errors when hiding from antivirus you may have to do an offline scan to find it.

tbh, it's a bit of a black art to track down what causes the reboot. But if I have a similar problem I look at the very last few messages BEFORE the one you pasted and see what was happening in the event log. It doesn't always give the solution though.

Your best bet is a restore to the point before you installed Kapersky.

This deal doesn't appear to work anymore unless you are a Barclays customer.

Anyone spot another cheap way to get it?
