Damaged jack on laptop - Buying USB jack

Been on the fridz for a while now and audio is constantly dropping in an out in different speakers of the headphones. Looks to be pretty expensive to repair it and beyond my level to go soldering etc (worried I'll do more damage) so decided to by a USB one.

Looking at some on ebay, one says sounds won't work for online gaming.

Anyone know why this could be and if this is the case for all USB jacks? Has anyone who has went down this road give me any advice. Thanks.

Note:This adapter for PS3 only carries voice chat.
You can NOT hear game sounds through your headphone
    while playing online games

    It'll be fine.
