Dortmund are and have been letting everyone know that they won't let anyone move on until they are happy to. They let Gotze and Hummels run down their contracts as well.

Assume you meant Lewandowski instead of Hummels?

Gotze was bought by Bayern, they met his buy out clause and nothing Dortmund could do.

I just don't see the sense in not adding another 20-30 million to your transfer budget by letting the player go now.

They probably believe that they can't find adequate replacement for the money they could expect to get for him, especially in an overheated market, especially after the European Championship. Some players are worth more to a team then the money you would get for them with a Transfer.

In addition to they could expect a huge fan backlash as well, after Hummels and Guendogan have already been sold. Fans in Germany are far more vocal in these kind of situations then most Irish/British are.

Dortmund have been doing some fine business. Dembele is a huge talent.

I know it been said before about Southampton but I really don't think they will recover from this summers player and manager raids on there squad.

It's harder that they don't have a manager in place to direct traffic (also must mean Mane can be bought soon!).

    Wanyama to Spurs £11 million.

£1.5m less than they paid for him but he does only have a year left on his deal.

So should we back them for CL or win the title, I aint falling for that Southampton relegation bet again :(

I guess Koeman left because he knew what was going to happen, again players being sold.
And his list of replacements from the Dutch league/Feyenoord was empty so he left.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,746 ✭✭✭BullBlackNova

Even if it just one year left on his deal, it must be pretty galling for Southampton to actually lose money on Wanyama given the Premier League premium and the colossal amount of cash that will be spent this summer by PL sides.

Southampton are an extremely well run club. Like Swansea, a managerial change won't necessarily be able to send them careening off the road of progress, but you would have to worry a little. If Wanyama, Mané and Long go, for example, there is no guarantee that the replacements will be of the standard required like they have been in recent years. Add the managerial change to it, and Southampton could be off the pace for a while.

Look at Southampton's pre-Christmas form vs their post-Christmas form last season - one win in their first six, six defeats in 8 games from November to January... Taking an additional 4 points in that time would have given them Champions League football. It's the slimmest of margins, and if they face another slog of rebuilding for the first bit of next season, it could again have the same impact next season regardless of how good the new boss is.

Soton are what they are mid-sized and they'll never get any "bigger" regardless of how well they do. And don't say Leicester City, they'll be back in the pack come next May. It may be frustrating but the eco-system is not going to change - Soton buy a player, he does well Liverpool/Arsenal/Spurs buy them as they lose players to Barca, Real, PSG, City and on it goes.

chelsea and city were mid sized clubs too, money changes everything in football

What has Wanyama ever done to deserve that sort of move?

Agree completely, historical pedigree counts for little. 10 years ago, moving from Ajax or Celtic to Southampton, Milan/Inter to Spurs/Everton or Liverpool to City would have been seen as a real backward step. Today it's a career progression and more money.

It's hardly ridiculous to think that that could be further distorted with money to put the likes of Southampton far higher up the pecking order

He is good enough to be a second string player at Spurs, no doubt about it

£11m is peanuts by PL standards, and hardly like he's going to Real Madrid.

He's young, has plenty of potential and a lot of experience. Pochittino knows him well, has proven himself both in both the PL and CL, holding his own against some of the worlds best. Seems a no-brainier to me if they can get him at that price

Soton occupied a 15,000 ground until 10 years ago, they have won 1 trophy of any note - Chelsea and Man City won multiple titles before they became "enriched"

They were not mid sized, only under-performing,

Neither Chelsea nor City assembled their array of stars on the basis of them having won multiple titles long before they became "enriched". Southampton playing at the Dell 10 years ago is irrelevant. If another Russian criminal decides he fancies a football club to detract attention from his other interests, Southampton could become far far bigger than what they are currently.

At present, they're not far from what City were prior to the investment, and not a million miles from what Chelsea had been either

In the years prior to Abramovich Chelsea won 2 FA Cups, the Cup Winners Cup, the League Cup, signed the likes of Vialli, Gullit, Desailly and Deschamps and qualified for the Champions League twice. Southampton can ony dream of that.

Hence my emphasis on them being closer to City than Chelsea. Given Southampton have regularly finished in the Europa Lge spots, to be challenging for a CL place isn't a million miles away

£25m for Deeney. Jesus wept. If that goes through it'll end up being one of the worst deals in Premier League history. Insanity.

In the world of Premier League craziness where Raheem Sterling is a £50m player, even this is nuts!

There is only so many players to go around, the EPL has probably maxed out on how strong it can be, all that will happen is players in the division prices becoming more inflated, case in point in Russia where they used to spend mad money for players within the league.

And hes a far better player, put Benteke in that squad and he dominates again, Mahrez and Albrighton crossing into him and watch him score again

Ya would be decent set up,Benteke was never right for Liverpool and when Kloop moved in,he barely got a look in.
Its a crazy amount of money when you look at it.

Sunderland with an £11m bid for Dzeko and willing to match his £140,000 a week wages, per Sky Italia and others. :pac:

Less than no chance of 1) Dzeko coming to Sunderland and 2) Sunderland matching those figures.

    https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/jun/18/arsenal-chelsea-sofiane-boufal-lille-barcelona-atletico-madrid

Sofiane Boufal's agent claims he has had talks with Barca over a €25 million move. Linked with Spurs and Liverpool, and reported enquiries from Arsenal and Chelsea too.

Moroccan winger, also plays as a number 10, at Lille. A lot expected of him - could be a shrewd move for someone.

From his agents behaviour when he was at Celtic, it should have been known that he wouldnt be signing a 2nd contract at Southampton before the ink dried on his first.

I guess with Vardy looking likely to stay after all that's Deeney off the table so Watford get to keep their €25m star :D

It really show's how big a draw United are to have the players the players that want to sign for them after last season

Even without CL when you have a manager like Jose, I suppose its to be expected

who wants to sign for them bar a 35yr old Ibra for a quarter of a million a week?

It should be interesting. He spent the last few years, his peak years, in a second tier league with the best squad in the league at his club.

Things might not be as rosy in the PL with more physical defenders and some decline in his abilities and the relative quality of the squad surrounding him.

He'll be fine. He's a pretty big unit himself.

he gets more than 15 league goals and it's a good season for him and I suspect he will.

I would imagine he wont play in it

    That is till maybe quarters

I think Jose will want to win it again

How much managers can say they have won both the CL and EL with different clubs

    He would love it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,862 ✭✭✭✭inforfun

Utd shouldnt bother with Ibrahimovic if he indeed decides to go to the Olympics.
£200/250.000 a week for a player who plays 2 tournaments this summer is madness.

How do you think they will manage to keep him some kind of fit for December/January AND also want him available at the start of the season when he is having no time off this summer?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,446 ✭✭✭glued

Leicester ready to bid £30M on Troy Deeney according to John Percy. Absolute madness.
