Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I wonder how much stock clubs put into major tournaments and signing players.

James Rodriguez to madrid after the world cup is a fairly clear case of that.

Gilberto Silva went to Arsenal on the back of the 2002 World Cup, and Man Utd got Kleberson in similar circumstances. Funnily enough, the latter was more highly regarded at the time :D

After Euro 96 Patrick Berger was signed to Liverpool on the back of his performances for Czech Republic. Karel Poborský went to Manchester United.

Liverpool signed El Hadji Diouf after WC 2002 but we'll not talk about that

Hopefully the newest Senegalese arrival will prove to be just as effective as his predecessors!

    :pac:

Diouf was signed as he was the star of the Lens team challenging for the League

This was completed well in advance of the world cup

Interest peaked in Diouf after the 2002 African Cup of Nations where he, and Senegal played brilliantly on their way to the final.

Newcastle spunking £25 million on Matt Ritchie and Dwight Gayle.

    Absolute farce these parachute payments

The PL is a rich man's party - even the guests who are f*cked out get a goodie bag at the door - every other sap is looking in the window in the pouring rain.

Nuts really isn't it. These lads would have been 4-6 million 10 years ago.

Nah its weird because it is an English league(and China now it seems) bubble. Prices have remained the same throughout the mainland.

To be fair Bayern bought an 18 year old kid who doesn't even start for Portugal for potentially €80 million

Lyon and France CB Samuel Umtiti on his way to Barcelona it seems.

€30 million. Believe he is highly rated enough and expected to start against Iceland on Sunday too.

Honestly if I had to pick between him and lets say Sakho it would be difficult

I think hes a bit over rated

Barcelona and Liverpool are probably looking for different things from a centre back though.

    Id agree

He is better with the ball at his feet

But I think a poorer defender over all

Always thought he played on the (left)wing.... Well, only remember him from 1 EL match against Spurs where he was. And scored.

City have signed Aaron Mooy from their affiliate club Melbourne City, he's a creative midfielder, very comfortable on the ball and has an eye for goal, will be interesting to see if he can make the grade. I'd liken him to a more creative Lampard with less goals in him.

Hulk confirmed Shanghai SIPG for about €41m, has one player generated more money for doing less?

It'll be interesting to see if he can make the grade. Of what I've seen in my time in Australia he won't

No he left them, there was an article on BBC Sport which was basically a "have tools, will work", weren't some Celtic fans terrified they'd be lumped with him?

I'd say it's just a signing to try and boost City's popularity in Australia. I can't imagine he'll get much playing time.

To be fair to him he scored 56 league goals last season.

Be interesting to see how Ibrahimovic gets on.

ManU seems to be a retirement home for a few players recently.

Not sure what's more crazy, that there has been bids for 68 million combined for Watfords strike force, or that Watford think they are worth more

Well, if Watford is under the impression the 2 of them kept them in the Premier league last year, they actually are worth more...

But 68 million for those 2 is moronic money indeed.
