What's the course like out in Galbally?

Looking like I'll be doing this instead of Mungret this weekend, would be looking to run < 26 mins

Just seen that Shandrum AC are having their 5 mile race on the 23rd of June, since it's on my door step I will be doing that.

I know it's not part of the Ballyhoura series but going to do the Dan Byrne Memorial 5k in Doneraile park on the 2nd of June, was my 1st race last year so should be bit of fun.

Anyone have a course profile for Kilmallock? (I know I seem to ask this question an awful lot on this thread :D)

I've seen the video online alright but hard to tell where the hills are

Haven't run a lot of 5 Milers really - PB is currently at 32 mins....hoping to scrape under that tonight

Here you go, it seems pretty flat (the profile looks tough but you are talking 10 - 12 metre max gain.

Best of luck with it, looking forward to see how you get on.

Best of luck! I'm going to wait for the Bruff 5 mile as I think it's pretty flat. I reckon anything can't be as bad as the Michal Rejmer 5 mile route in terms of elevation. Or as good! Depending what kind of a sadist you are I guess...

    Cheers...dunno how i missed that site :o

Not feeling too hectic at the minute....sleep all over the place this week (due to toddler going thru loony growth phase or something) and feeling a bit leggy so will hopefully perk up a bit when I get to Kilmallock :D

I'll either keel over and fall asleep in a ditch or set a spanking new PB....there will be no middle ground

Bruff does have a little pull in the last mile, I'm going to try Newtownshandrum at the end of June, fairly close to home and relatively level. I did enjoy Bruff last year though.

I wasn't aware of that one. Is it part of Ballyhoura series or separate? I think it's possibly closer to me than Bruff. Tempted! As long as you're tells me the truth about relatively level :-)

Yea it is part of it. God, I fear steering you wrong now, but I can't think of any obvious "hills" along the route.

The video is on facebook if you know the area.

Did you get your sub 40? I elected to race the 5k in Shannon Airport that evening instead, just for the sheer novelty of running on a runway not that I have any love for such short races.

No - missed out by about 40 seconds....you can read all the gory details here

Would be fairly confident of a PB on Friday night, but (and it might be a big but to paraphrase Sir Mix-a-lot)...I'm going to the Green Day concert on Thursday so not sure what effect that'll have on my athletic performance

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,903 ✭✭✭zulutango

Well done all the same!! By the looks of things, if you hold back on the pace in the first half (4.00/km pace say) you might have enough in the tank to do a few 3:50 or 3:55's in the second half.

No excuses for Friday night!! My experience is that going on a bender improves performance :D
