Real convective type showers as the clouds seem to be building on the spot with no obvious movement on the radar.

Yes, running the animated UK met office observations map, they are very static, but growing. Mayo, Sligo and West Galway have some hefty looking cells developing.

It's really odd to not be able to track their movement. The cell to the west of Spiddal seems to be circling. Huge raindrops now.

The usually reliable Arcus didn't predict this.

    Zero
The convection is happening inland where opposing air types are colliding

    Thunder's here. :)

The shower over me is stationary. Arcus just said rain for the hour :)

It's reminiscent of a day during the Salthill Airshow. The pilots were commenting how the same shower had gone around the bay & come back.

Thunder in the distance the last half hour near Charlestown

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,899 ✭✭✭✭Discodog

So weird. The shower moved slightly toward the sea & then just faded presumably lack of updraught

Nice rumbles of thunder to the south of Castlebar now

Thunder has arrived outside of Castlebar, a good 15 minutes of rumbles so far.

Sitting out in the back garden in athlonr looking north. Beautiful clouds building up into the sky. Wish I had one of those timelapse cameras.

As soon as the clouds cross the Shannon they seem to start dissipating

Intense spot about to hit Spiddal. Interesting to watch them build on the radar.

Edit: it's fading just like the one before. They don't like the sea :)

First rain of the day here in West Mayo (Murrisk). Nice big drops.

Most enormous rumbles of thunder of to the north of Clonmel, like I imagine a barrage of heavy guns must sound.
    Rain with sunshine as well.

Nice bit of thunder now here in Cork. Not very dark either, some patches of blue still about.

Some intense downpours and lots of lightening breaking out in Munster.

Here in West Clare, the towering cumulus are visible again.

Oh there's lightning , it's just that you can't see it because it's daylight.
