Heard plenty of thunder, but the majority of the bad stuff passed to our NE, by maybe a mile or two here in Sligo town, was pitch black in that direction. Very impressive radar at present, Leitrim looks like the place to be.

Has to be some serious thunder and lightening in Leitrim/Sligo. Wow looks great on the radar.

Can confirm, was crazy with lightning/thunder simultaneously. Still pouring rain with thunder.

    (Between south-mid Leitrim)

I find it hard to believe that with so much thunder lightning no one had posted a singe picture or video

I won't be surprised if it fizzles out on approach.

Although the radar over Leitrim and Sligo looks impressive, there is surprisingly little lightening.

    That will fizzle out.

    Not here it wasn't.. :(

Absolutely no where near it. A very average thunderstorm event.

Looking at the radar pic above looks like something brewing in the Bay Of Biscay ? perhaps a taste of some real Thunderstorms like the 80's where they used to originate ? Maybe the wind might blow it our way ?

Quite a nit of thunder and lightning around Ballybofey area in the last 20 minutes. It appears to be moving slowly away

Anything in store for South Drogheda, East Meath? Sun splitting the stones at the moment. Would love something to shift the clamminess.

Like here earlier on, three rumbles and that was about it. We tend to get more thundery rain here rather than those big storms that they get on the continent.

Only if I had wanted to see an electrical storm ;)

That cell earlier fired up as it was passed by here.
Rain wasn't as heavy a i thought it would be.
Seen really nice fork flashes although a lot were hidden behind the rain.
Seen two massive flashes before i got the camera out, nearly to close for comfort.

The forecast now as of 15:21 , doesn't look encouraging.

Warm and humid for the rest of today with spells of hazy sunshine. Heavy scattered showers will continue for a time mainly in the midlands and north with the risk of thundery downpours leading to localized flooding, elsewhere it will be mostly dry with just isolated showers.

Tonight heavy scattered showers will continue for a time over north Leinster, Ulster and Connacht but elsewhere will be mostly dry with just isolated showers. Humid and mild tonight with lowest temperatures staying around 12 to 14 degrees in light southerly or variable breezes with mist or fog patches forming.

It looks like the brunt of the storm currently in Donegal and Derry is going to push into the North Channel, still small pockets of activity along the Sligo/Roscommon border.

Few more beefy showered have popped up in Kildare and Meath

Edit:in fact lightening strikes in trim in the last 20 minutes.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,810 ✭✭✭thomasj

Seems to quite an active cell in the trim area at the moment. Wonder where it's heading to?
