Looks like some decent convection to the west of Cardigan bay in Wales according to the radar. Lets see if it manages to cross the Irish sea intact

They seem to fizzle out while crossing the sea. Fingers crossed that won't happen.

Yes in fact I'm surprised the activity hasn't fizzled out yet. If anything, judging by the radar and sat, shower activity seems to be intensifying?

Agreed, one to keep an eye on methinks.

A surprise in store for Dublin and Wicklow this evening? Some activity in the south Irish sea atm could intensify further. Wouldn't be surprised to see the odd flash of lightning.

As they head towards blanch they seem to divert north towards dunboyne every time.

Is there any chance of sparks in the West tonight looking at what is approaching the South West coast

I think those of us in the east will be in for some disappointment. Yes, it's very warm in Dublin, but I just can't see anything other than a bit of rain hitting here.

Awesome chase day to cavan and back then to the hill of tara, classic MCS type system with near constant thunder, some serious close lightning at time. Got some great video and a few decent photos.

Wrecked now but seeing some more potential in the Irish Sea! ... might not get a chance to go through my stuff just yet! :)

Some activity just outside Foxford, first strike of the day in Mayo.

Sheet lightning south of Delvin, looking towards kilucan now, will try video it

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,414 ✭✭✭Trebor176

Looking at the lightning radar, there doesn't seem to have been much more activity out at the Irish Sea in the last while, nor does it seem to be getting any closer to the east coast.

It's definitely edging closer on each refresh.

According to the 3hr rainfall forecast, it should hit North Dublin in about 1.5 hrs.

And still sparking away. It will get here but whether it's turns out to be an event remains to be seen. I might head to the beach with the camera shortly if the sparks continue.

As promised, screen shot of lightning west of Delvin, Westmeath.
Thunder rumbling here for 45 mins now

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,757 ✭✭✭✭Kermit.de.frog

Once hitting land it should intensify somewhat. Wish it was darker right now. Would see sparks already from Dub.

    Thought I heard something too.

Another just as I was typing.

It seems I was wrong so :p There's a heck of a lot of activity west of Dublin. It's been the case on and off all day, but I've only heard distant rumbles. It's like as if there's a force-field around us, haha.

If you're between the green lines in this image, maybe get a hat and candles on standby from 10pm.
Some of the times a bit off, but you get the idea. Radar at 21:15
