Ok, CW have another forecast out for a moderate risk for england and wales with parts of NI. Maybe there will be an import that will sway this way .

Day 1 Convective Outlook: Tue 07 Jun 2016

    StaticMapService.GetMapImage?1m2&1i3791&2i2302&2e1&3u5&4m2&1u410&2u555&5m5&1e0&5sen-US&6sus&10b1&12b1&token=76632largethumb.php?date=2016-06-07

    LOW SLGT MDT HIGH
SVR What do these risk levels mean?
    Day 1 Convective Outlook VALID 06:00 UTC Tue 07 Jun 2016 - 05:59 UTC Wed 08 Jun 2016
    ISSUED 09:41 UTC Tue 07 Jun 2016
    ISSUED BY: Chris/Dan
UPDATE 09:41 UTC Tweaks to SLGT and addition of MDT areas to highlight zones of better thunderstorm coverage / higher confidence

A complicated setup exists on Tuesday with various rounds / potential for thunderstorms through the forecast period. Synoptically, a plume of warm, moist air continues to advect north from the nearby Continent, capped initially by a notable warm nose aloft. However, it is likely that elevated convection will be ongoing Tuesday morning over the Irish Sea into eastern Northern Ireland / extreme SW Scotland, and perhaps also feeding into SE England from remnant overnight convection over France / English Channel - although the extent and amount of lightning activity with this remains questionable.

Otherwise, diurnal heating combined with low-level convergence (sea breeze and orographic forcing) with a shortwave trough nudging slowly NE-wards will allow isolated to scattered thunderstorms to develop through the afternoon and evening hours, forming into clusters along areas of pronounced wind convergence. DLS is rather weak in the main, leading to fairly disorganised convection, but given slow storm motion, relatively high MLCAPE (700-1100 Jkg-1) and 28-32mm PWAT, any storms that do develop could produce frequent lightning, local flash flooding with rain accumulations of 15-30mm in 1 hour, and hail up to 2.0cm in diameter. Converging low-level winds and rapidly rising updrafts may allow a couple of brief funnels / tornadoes to develop.

Storms will gradually decay through the late evening hours, although may still produce lightning well beyond 00z Wednesday across the East Midlands / Home Counties. The SLGT over the Home Counties may need to be merged with the SLGT over northern England if confidence continues to increase, along with perhaps the introduction of a MDT - trends will be monitored for this during Tuesday.

Was on the late flight from Berlin to Dublin last night and we got diverted to Cork because of the electrical storm. The Captain said our plane was going to be number 12 in the stack over Dublin Airport and we were going to have quite a wait before being cleared to land. As a result we had to go to Cork to refuel before returning to Dublin -- the stack had cleared by that stage though so we had no delay landing when got back to the capital.

We had some impressive views of the cloud tops being illuminated by internal lightning flashes as we skirted Dublin.

We had a thunder storm in Berlin on Sunday afternoon but it was more to the south of the city.

probably worth noting that as cool and all as it is to look at the lightning it does have its dangerous side too

    http://www.rte.ie/news/weather/2016/0607/793875-lightning-strikes-northern-ireland/

Three people, including two children, have been taken to hospital after being struck by lightning in Northern Ireland.

The NI Ambulance Service said it was called to an incident in Lisburn, Co Antrim this afternoon.

The children have been taken to the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children, while the man was transferred to Lagan Valley Hospital.

The extent of their injuries is not yet clear.

    from utv/itv:

The family were struck around 2pm in Lisburn (possibly near Killowen/Laurelhill school) The man was was taken to Lagan Valley Hospital, but is expected to be moved.

A spokesman for the South Eastern Health Trust told the Belfast Telegraph the man was "critically ill".

The two children - a boy and a girl - are reportedly in the Belfast Children's Hospital for treatment to burn injuries. Heavy downpours have also caused severe flooding in the town. BBC says the boy may also be in critical condition, the girl seriously injured.

There is a serious amount of lightning storms in Europe at the moment.

If you have a look on lightningmaps.org it is incredible to see the amount of hits in a single area at one time. Strasbourg and around Reims in France and Brussels in Belgium in particular are getting a hell of a storm

It looks like a trail going from Northern Germany, through Holland, Belgium and then France, Luxembourg, Southern Germany, Switzerland and Northern Italy.

    It is quite something.

A few screenshots of the lightning here yesterday evening.
All in all yesterday was the best day for thunder and fork lightning here for a long long time.
At one stage there was lightning coming for 3 different directions.
We had a family mass and a get together afterwards which meant i missed nearly an hour of it.
Had a short shower at one stage that had the biggest drops of rain i've ever seen here.
Even knocked the power out for a while.
EDIT: Added short video of a few flashes.

I approve of it :P A bit of humorous education is all it was. It's crazy the amount of people who spell lightning (as in thunder & lightning) incorrectly.

Well the poster had obviously realised his mistake and corrected the spelling of the post on here and the video title before his "education" but obviously couldn't change the text in the video.

And, IMO, a  doesn't come across as humorous.

"Lightening"has been driving me mad here on Boards since Summer arrived, but I was too polite/wary of being flamed to say anything about it.

Some people don't take kindly to having their spelling corrected here.
