    They deliver in the larger towns and cities, no rural deliveries.

    Sometimes only small part of those towns at that.

    The Below gives a delivery office list, pick one and it tells you were. Here in Maynooth its the shopping areas only - Main Street, Mill Street, Manor Mills S/C.

    Your delivery office may not be in your town.

    It seems to be quite random. Some provincial towns get most of the town covered; some get the main street.

    Postal staff at the larger delivery offices usually work good Friday. These offices usually cover the larger towns and cities. There will be cases where some rural deliveries work from these offices so some rural areas will get a delivery.
    If your postman works from a rural post office then he won't be working today as the rural post offices are closed.

    Precisely, your original post said they did not deliver to rural areas. There are considerable rural areas serviced by the nearest sorting office, as we hardly have a rural post office left.
