Just looking for a bit of advise:
I have been quoted these prices from a practice in Dublin- Not sure if it's a specialist but the qualifications of person are B.A., B.Dent. Sc.

    ----
Molar right upper root canal 650 Euros
    Ceremic crown 850 Euros
    prophylacitc cleaning 75 Euros
Composite 2 surfaces posterior 110 Euros

Have paid about 45 euros for initial consultation including X-Rays.

Are these prices ok ? It's my first experience with dentists and seems pricey.

Cheap compared to what 4 paid a few years back.

If it's a back tooth, then they have multiple roots, and are pricey.

THink I paid 900 for a rootcanal on one a few years ago

Maybe ask a mod to move you to Dental.
    Pricewise it looks OK.

Seems you cannot compare prices in that forum

thanks prices look better, but I'm thinking if it took more than couple of trips, travelling there from Dublin would cost more time and fuel probably

Remember to claim a tax refund on any expenditure you have - usually its done early in the year after expenditure

You can claim 20% of what you pay after the first 150 iirc.

And in the dental forum, you can ask if the price seems right there are plenty of dentists on there who will advise.

Refund is about 20% on all non routine stuff. So root canals crowns etc are covered.

I think dental is subsidised in NI so that explains why they're cheaper.
I've had wisdom teeth out up the north and standard of care is the same as here.

what about travelling away e.g. Turkey to get these treatments done? searching on net seems prices are unbelievably low there..plus a bit of sunlight too!

If you don't know anyone there or have no idea where to start I wouldn't risk it. What if you have issues after the operation or if you end up in a terrible clinic?

If you'd like to travel, I'd do it inside the EU anyway.

Seriously, go to the dental issues forum and search for posts about dental tourism.

Those big back teeth are a rough rc job, I had my first one done, roots removed, temp filling in and then two weeks later permanent filling.

Turns out there was a minute bit of root left.

Went back to my dentist, and he redid the entire job free of charge.

If you got it done in Turkey and came home and had issues like I did, would the cost of another flight/hotels, or getting it fixed here make up for the initial savings?

Go to Turkey for two weeks and get it done there. The tech and quality they have over there is second to none. You'll get all that done in a week and it will be substantially cheaper.

This is the work I got last time and the costs.

    3D xrays

8 silver fillings removed and replaced with whites

    1 upper left root canal

    1 extraction

    1 porcelain Crown

    Scale and polish

    1450e

I had a crown put on a tooth. It fell off after a month and I got a replacement job done for free.

I'd prefer my dentist to be a drive away so I can give out to him in person if things go wrong. ;)

There's a new place opening up near the Red Cow called 3 Dental. Prices on their website look very competitive. One of the guys there works in Limerick as well and would really recommend him. (Not affiliated to the business in any way - just found him to be particularly good)

travelling to get one root canal and crown done is nonsense. there will be little or no saving and, as others have said, if you have any problems with the work you have no comeback at all.

The question I would have about cheaper treatments is "are they using the best available techniques and equipment to get the job done?"

Remember, equipment costs the same no matter where you are in the world, so maybe the expensive dentist is expensive because he needs to pay for all the best kit, where the cheaper guys are using stuff that is 5 or 10 years old.

I'm not a dentist, but I understand that maybe some dentists are expensive for a reason.

    Just to update:
I Was in Turkey for a holiday and checked a specialist endodontist there in a University.
I Got my molar root canal ( which were being counted as 3 canals at some places ) Plus crown done Plus two fillings -- twice had Xrays as well. They were not pressed for money at all. I attended about 4 times in total -- Paid in my last appointment. Price was extremely reasonable- I would have paid 4 times to what they had asked for!
Good luck to all happy smiling.

It is great you had a good experience. But at the end of the day, getting any treatment abroad is a risk. There are people going abroad for dental treatment and ending up with Hep C. You are less likely to know where or not the dentist is actually qualified.

    http://www.irishtimes.com/news/health/hepatitis-c-found-among-irish-people-who-travelled-overseas-for-dental-treatment-1.1370302

Prices are obviously going to be lower abroad. Turkey and China might have cheap dental work, but their wages are horrific. I imagine a root canal is a luxury for most people in the developing world and not the bargain most people seem to think it is

Quoted prices would be private patient prices.
