anyone with any experience of the above mentioned breed??

Just calved down WRO to a heifer

no bother calving, up and drinking in no time, from a distance you'd think she was a BB

    Nice shape to her

thinking of putting a few more heifers in calving to him

Had never heard of them before now but a quick Google and can't find anything not to like and they look like seriously good looking cattle. Did you use Ai? Where did you get the straws?

bought 2 cows with 2 speckle park heifers at foot, cows are quiet but calves are stone cracked, but might be down to the previous owner.

They seem very hardy so far

Dad Hot a lmx heifer inseminated with knockane uproar (s804) from bova. Hardy handy heifer. Caught up to other heifers size wise.

Crossed her with our lim bull and a white heifer with red ears came out. She had a bull calf this year and a handy red calf came out.

Both calves out of her were pure hardy at birth no calving difficulty.
Attached is the heifer calf off a speckle park X and pb lim bull. She is 8 months there and pure cheeky.

I would use speckle park on heifers again.

Saw a speckle park calf on my travels yesterday. Lovely lively calf but smallish. Owner said that he was filling out well and was up suckling within 20 mins and he looked seriously hardy running round a creep. Not sure who the daddy was came out of Progressive Genetics would be very tempted to chance him on some heifers.

the one SP calf that i have at the moment seems to be heading the same way as KYA, small on arrival but starting to come into her own now 5weeks

goin to chance another 4-5 this year and see

Super looking cattle, there doesn't seem to be much on the known advertising platforms in the way of pedigree females. How would a pedigree Speckled Park bull cross with a pedigree Charolais maiden heifer.

have 3 heifers calving down to wro in the next few weeks - will let ye know how they go since the one i tried last year is in great shape

Calf 2 red bull off stock bull- nice bull.

Only going by ones born here

Done a bit of research into buying a few pedigree females. They are all naturally polled, they are a cross between a Shorthorn and a Angus. Calves can be a low birth weight but thrive quickly as the mothers have a high fat percentage in their milk. Apparently very easy calving and cross very well on continental cattle.

Same as that. I've been using him for two years and have a good few calves off him and so far one heifer is flighty. Pretty average for lims I think.

Anyone who thinks ZAG calves are crazy must've never used OEI, NSQ or FL21, plenty of nutters off those:pac:

Just looking over books etc. she was a LM off the stock bull and off the SPX in the photos.
This is the calf in previous posts. I sold her at 23 months off the yard for €990 in March 2019. She was killed in September @29 months with 341kg carcass U-4-

Anyone have any opinion was that a good kill out or not and would it have taken much for me to get to that point if I kept her? Or would it have been worth it? I had originally thought to put her in my own freezer but allure of money... I also thought to keep her for a cow.... can’t do that now.

Were you happy with 990 at 23 months. Did she leave a few euros . If she had been on meal it would be tight. Lovely looking cattle but if keeping for 2 years would they need to be making better money

No she wasn’t on meal. Just silage. The €990 was ok as mother is very easy to feed and no medical issues. Literally dosing and tb test. The €990 kept the bank account going. I regretted selling her other than that- I was keeping her as a cow but her stars had dropped.

I’ve the sp cow in photo- she is 2013. Her first daughter. Handy cow, ok calves but very low cost cows that cross well with the LM bull. I’ve one heifer from last year. Going to hold onto her as she is a red version of that lady in the photo, except she has horns so probably more LM.

I had two spx heifers I bought off a dairy herd but turned out to be out of jersey cattle and not suited for breeding at all. Ended up with two sections. I didn’t put them in calf again.

Great temperament cattle. Still trying to figure are they worth a punt or not. The LMx I have are equally as quiet so it might be just the herd I have,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,972 ✭✭✭squinn2912

They’re lovely cattle. Every now n again I get an itch to go more shorthorn or try a few SP. but we sold 2 Lim heifers last week at 20 mths £1320 around 600kgs. Meal in them but not 300 quid of it. Whatever way
I think it out I’m back where I started, lim
