I have been with UPC/Virgin for many years. Unfortunately soon they will no longer provide a service in my area.
So now I have to choose between eir Vision and Sky.

I have Eir E Fibre already so was leaning towards eir Vision but I don't know anyone with eirVision so I don't know if it's good or bad.

    Can anyone help?

Thank you. Sounds like you've had a bad experience with eir Vision.

Stay away from e vision!!!!!! You can not imagine the amount of trouble it gives you! Between eir switching channels off, constant loss of service, misses programs. That's just a tip of the iceberg! 😟

Eir Vision is a grand serviec. I've got it with the HD pack.
Quality of the SD channels is not a good as Sky but it's on par with UPC.
The interface is a lot better than UPC at least, with the handy option of removing channels from the EPG that you've no interest in.
The EVision android app is also very useful for watching tv when you're out and about.

I'm sorry you feel this way esforum however I'm afraid we are unable to troubleshoot technical issues from here. We have a dedicated technical support department that would specialise in troubleshooting these issues that the customer would need to contact directly.

Never had technical issues but the EPG was so bad I decided to pay for sky and still be billed by eir for a few months

    Stay away form E-Vision.
I posted this in another thread:
TV: this is a very basic service, RTE/UTV Ireland/BBC/C4/Setanta Sports - No ITV. It is a very unreliable service, recordings dont work sometimes, recordings keep recording. Trying to set up a series link is hit and miss. Its a very frustrating service, e.g. last night i was taping a programme it started at 9 o'clock and at about 9.20 i sat down to watch it. But when i tried to watch from the start, it said there was a reading error, so i couldn't watch it, even though it was still recording. I could only watch it when it finished recording at 10 o'clock! Issues like this are a constant with it. Maybe there is something wrong with our box, but when i rang up about an issue, i was told they were doing an update and everything should be ok.

Terrible service and the customer service is terrible!

you have never had to reset your box you lucky lucky man.

I would counter that with the other services you can ignore 'movies' if you dont have the pack. With the Eir EPG you need to scroll through dozens of greyed out channels that you dont even have and if you do take the trouble of deleting them, they will reappear on a reset.

I had it last year and the box frequently would complain that it wasn't connected to the broadband it was registered to (it was!), requiring a few reboots to sort it out - also tended to get very hot.

EPG was so poor as to be unusable insofar as ease of use and features

Channel quality was about average for SD. Unless things have changed they're missing stations like Sky 1.

Bear in mind also that it'll reduce your broadband speed.

Had a few billing issues as well to the point of cancelling the DD and paying it manually every month via mybills.ie. Previous calls to the helpdesk not logged etc.

As it happened there was also a dish from the previous tenant so I had a Sky box connected for FTA. It just had the effect of highlighting the gaps between the two. In the end I cancelled eVision, went to Fibre only (which to be fair works fine) and got a deal with Sky for the TV

The eVision box is still here awaiting collection incidentally 7/8 months later.. that also never happened!

If you get a very good deal I wouldn't turn you off it. I had eir Broadband & TV for 18 months. Never had any problems with the broadband.

The eVision box seemed a bit....flakey. The EPG was slow and clunky compared to what i had been used to with Sky, but I got used to it. The box would occasionally lock up while recording or rewinding. I never contacted support as there didn't seem to be any consistency to it. It would be fine for weeks and then randomly crash (usually in the middle of a match, etc!). I would be left with sound and no picture and would have to restart the box which is a slow enough process.

I've moved to vodafone now - I have to say their TV product seems very slick compare to Eirs.

No service is perfect - so it depends on what is available in your area and what deal you can get !

I also have the Vodafone tv service and it's seriously good. It's like that new Sky Q

I can't wait for my contract is over as I will be changing back to sky as the Eir  TV is very poor and can't be relied on. Their customer service is the worst I have ever experienced and the TV service is constantly dropping out and they will do nothing!

    Hi The happybutcher,

Thank you for getting in touch and I am sorry to hear this.

If having trouble with your Eir TV,  I'd recommend contacting our technical support on 1890260260 or 1901 (freephone) or click here https://www.eir.ie/chatnow/ to chat with one of our agents and they will be able to troubleshoot the issue for you.

    Hi guys.

Just wondering - I’ve got a 4-way bundle with eir (TV, Broadband, Landline, Mobile) but plan to drop the TV package when my cotract is up.

We were told at installation that an allowance of our broadband (~25%) wa assigned to our TV package.

If we drop the TV package, does that free up this allowance, thus increasing our Broadband speed?

    Any advice appreciated.
