I used to use a program called DayZ Launcher(may be outdated now). Through this, you can download mods for the DayZ mod itself.

They released the Arma 2 dayz mod on steam a long time ago, just search for dayz mod in the steam store (launch arma 2 and operation arrowhead at least once before you launch the mod)
