Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Lovren and Sakho both with big blocks this evening

    Save from Mig

No protection from midfield. Can is just walking about the pitch.

Flashbacks to Carrow Road and THAT tackle.

Looked to have his hands on the back of the attacker while inside the box.

the ref is a homer. soo many bad tackles by Dortmund going unpunished.
yet can gets a soft booking earlier, lallana's was deserved though.

Holy **** what a half! Should really have been 2-0!

  • Subscribers Posts: 32,855 ✭✭✭✭5starpool

I was about to say that the halftime scoreline was robbery, but it should have been 2.

    Surely a foul on Clyne?

Ref is under pressure from the crowd and seems to be very lienent with Dortmund. They could of had two yellows easily.

    SHOULD BE 2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,501 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

Never thought I'd say this, but our defending is actually world class tonight, and better than our opponent's.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,438 ✭✭✭livinginkorea

Should have been more. We won't get too many chances like that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,397 ✭✭✭✭Turtyturd

Unluck Oreegee, bit of a Welbeck attempt but did well to time the run.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,388 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

Great save. Keeper closed the space very well and made himself huge.

Sakho has been the Man Of The Match for me so far.

That tackle from Lovren at the end there to deny Aubamayang...christ!

And the block from Sakho earlier, unreal.

Such a weird half...we haven't gotten Coutinho or Lallana into the game at all, very little possession in their half, and yet we really should be 2-0 up.

Delighted for Origi, and Klopp. Had that decision not paid off the media would hammer him for not starting Sturridge, but Origi has done exactly what was required of him. Be an outlet, keep them busy up there, and take a chance.

origi more than justifying his inclusion, hope it gives danny boy a wake up call

Never thought I'd be saying this but we could have had 2 or 3 goals in that first half.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,404 ✭✭✭✭Vicxas

    What a half!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 40,061 ✭✭✭✭Harry Palmr

Well then, that was okay, got the away goal and while its nip and tuck Dortmund haven't really been able to sustain pressure on the back line. Sturridge, Firmino and Allen all offer decent options in the 2nd half, whereas Dortmund seem to have their best cutlery on display right now.

If Firmino is fit enough I'd love to see him on for the last 30 mins at least.

Dortmund are class, probably only a matter of time before a bit of quality gets them a goal.....very happy with the scoreline and work rate though, missing a bit of quality and our Midfield has been a bit poor but hard work pulling us through.....

Some pretty blatant home decisions there in terms of bookings.

Reus and Castro's fouls were as bad as any in the match and they completely got away with them.

The one given to Can was bollocks.

Good performance by all of Liverpool's lads except Hendo and Can, who both look utterly terrified, over-awed and totally out of their depth.
If they were getting pressed into mistakes you could understand but almost everything they've done has been a completely unforced error. They're passing like they expect 10 Dortmund lads landing on top of them at any moment but they've had plenty of time on the ball and should be taking much better care of it than they are.

Good tactically savy performance, albeit one that's showing the gulf between the two teams.
The ease with which they're playing through our press has sharply contrasted with how hard it's been to get the ball up field and hang on to it.
Still, it might be a plucky underdog kind of performance but you can't argue with the results so far.

Competent away performance. Not the robbery some are declaring so far. We've been really threatening on the counter and are set up to do that... problem is we don't have a top class cdm to make it more comfortable.

Yeah, to be fair to Origi, the keeper was right out, closing the angles, and there were too many Dortmund players running in behind to be able to lob him. Ideally he'd have taken it early on his left foot where there was a bit of uncovered space, but thats easy to say in hindsight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,983 ✭✭✭✭NukaCola

Also.....probably going to jinx him but Lovren is easily 8 times the player he was last season........

That's probably the plan...will really stretch the tired defense then.

Still think Dortmund will win this match, but the away goal will be huge for Liverpool if it's any way close going into the second leg.

    Barry the blender?

    Actually it was Bottom.
Very happy with the away goal. Now to watch a sour Owen Hargreaves with Macca

Dortmund having much of the ball but not doing a hole ton bar aubas chance when sakho made an excellent block, origi doing very well with the few bits he's receiving, ideally would finish that second chance but took his first well. Should be a very good second half.

Clyne playing a stormer down the right tonight, its amazing to see such a young lad perform so well on a big stage. The future is here now and its bright

I think he's been very poor? Giving balls away not under pressure, caught ball watching for a Dortmund chance.

How many clearances, blocks or interceptions did Sakho make?

Been good going forward, but they've definitely had a lot of joy attacking him. Especially in the first 25 minutes anyway, he seems to have done better since then.

Can't see that happening given how well things have gone for Liverpool so far. Wouldn't surprise me if they managed to get another one here. It'll end up 1-1 or 0-2. 1-1 would make for a fantastic second leg. 0-2 and the tie is over.

Its strange to see Clyne having a poor game defensively, has been a really consistent performer for us.....has settled down a bit after a poor enough first 30 mins..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,477 ✭✭✭✭Knex*

Not bad so far lads. Playing with a bit more maturity than I've seen us do in a while, although we went mad for a few mins after we scored.

Would be ecstatic to get away with a result here.

We were playing like Brazil for a minute, then it went back to normal

right, for some reason I thought he was 22. Still he has been excellent going forward tonight, much better than Moreno on the left imo

Can should never have been booked.... hopefully he doesnt pick up another yellow

Grosskreutz & Reus were mascots for Liverpool in 2001 when they played Alaves.

Spotted on twitter. Thought it was cool.
