Smallest field of a long time with only 89 contenders. What would the cut be then? Still 60?

In recent years its been the top 50 and ties or the 10 shot rule.

I make it 92 invitees now listed as playing (incl. Tiger). The only addition since Monday appears to be Cabrara-Bello who climbed into the OWGR top 50 (from 54 to 36) thanks to his performance in the WGC Dell Match Play.

One possible addition will be the winner of the Shell Houston Open if he's not already invited.

This time next week we'll all be sitting down bemoaning the Par 3 contest. At least the excitement for the main event will be there, cannot wait!!

Is BBC coverage not on ?

It doesn't start untill next week.

On that point, will BBC be providing full coverage, or will it just be highlights?

I think it's highlights first 2 rounds and live for the last 2 rounds.

A video highlight of Rory's meltdown 5 years ago... Would love to see him put it right.

The refrain that says the Masters doesn't really start until the Back 9 on Sunday was very true for TV viewers until 2002 onwards.

To boost ratings CBS only televised the back 9 on Sundays.
It added to the mystique of the course I guess, now we have the whole shebang warts and all.

Think we still only get quite limited actual live play footage, be interesting to see what sky do to fill time!

Bit harsh of them to put that together ha.

I really fancy Rory for this one, have done for a while. Hopefully he can get it done!

It is a bit alright but it's just a reminder of what success he has had since that day where I'm sure he felt he was at rock bottom and his interview at the end is a reminder of his class.

Would love to see him get that green jacket next week. With Day, Watson, Scott and Fowler on form... it should hopefully make for a great tournament!

Throw in Phil, Louis, Schwartzel and even Johnson, all players that have good Augusta records who are playing very well atm. Even Spieth seems to have sparked into life this week. It's the hardest Masters to call in a long time. I have a feeling about Rory though, hopefully he doesn't let me down.

It's very hard not to see Rory have a 9 hole spell at some stage over the first 3 days that doesn't derail his challenge going into the Sunday.

As I keep harping on about... it's the following current stat that will put severe pressure on him around Augusta.

APPROACHES FROM 100-125 YARDS (Distance to pin) 23' 0" (Rank) 168

    (Rank) rank
is what that should say for that stat...

    Absolutely awful

    Comfirmed.

    Well pheque that.

He needs to be cautious and do whats best for his long term health and career.
Good that he will be there for the dinner though and a lot of his old friends will get to see him.

    Another flat Masters ahoy.

    Oakmont.....

Disappointed for him, but at least he's not taking up space/tv time when he's not up to the task.

:( Was obvious I suppose and I didn't expect anything else but still a disappointment. Will have to root for Louis so...

Excellent article in the Irish Times sports supplement yesterday (Sat. Apr 2nd) on the experience of playing Augusta National ....

Augusta National and winning a golden ticket to golfing paradise

On the 30th January, Paul McBride – along with five other golfing scholarship students from Wake Forest University – swung in off Washington Road, leaving behind the string of fast food restaurants that blot the thoroughfare, and drove up Magnolia Lane.

“It just pops up, out of nowhere,” says the Dubliner of the most famed entrance in golf that offers a portal to another world......

Jaysus - I love The Masters and that - but what the hell am I doing watching a 9 year old hitting the ball 150 yards - this realy is ridiculous from a build up perspective.

I got sucked into watching about 15 mins of that. The time it was taking them to hit with practise swings and routines was horrible but once the kids started using aim point to line up the 7 ft putts I had to turn it off ..... The game is doomed

No Fred Couples this year :(

I seen that - they also had fat putter grips at 9 :D

Surely you let kids develop their own wrist movement and feel - but Jordan has a slimish fat grip and he is best putter in world.

I guess the kids are just copying the stars - and it is why they need to come down hard on the top pros who are slow , because it creates the tone for the game going forward.
