new laptop on the way

hi all,

New laptop on the way and I want to do a dual boot on this machine.

I was thinking of putting on either Android, linux mint or Ubuntu, as they lighter on memory and all the rest.

Whats the best to go for ?


Ill be using the laptop for the usual stuff, internet, email, MS Office and possibly a CAD package

Anyone experience using a CAD package in non Windows environment. ?

Depends on the CAd package but I don't think Solidworks is designed to run on Linux. There may be a get around but the system requirements for Solidworks are all Windows based

Even the free PTC Creo Elements looks to run on Windows only.

Don't know how powerful an app you're looking for, but here's some ideas

freecadweb.org/ ,similar to the usual cad environment,

or if youl ove under the hood stuff too openscad.org

and, they're free.
