Can anyone point me in the right direction to solve a google photos issue?

Much of my Google storage is taken up with photos.
Recently I binned a lot of images and then cleared out the bin rather than wait for the automatic clearance after 60 days yet I still seem to have used the exact same amount of storage as before deleting the photos!

    Any thoughts?

Did you just delete your local copy as opposed to the server versions? If you log into Google photos online can you see the photos you deleted?

I have many years of photos which I generally offload onto separate hard drives every so often.

Currently on my hard drive I have only 2015 and 2016 photos.

In my https://photos.google.com/ I have selections of photos going back many years, usually sets that I uploaded to sent to people before the automatic upload came into operation.

I have just looked at my https://photos.google.com/ now and can see that all of the photos that I binned recently are not there but the figure for space used is the same!

I have the "upload photos at full size" unchecked

after selecting the "High quality" free storage option you also need to press "recover storage" if you want to convert your previously uploaded photos at high res to free https://support.google.com/photos/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=6314648

Doing that now but it still does not explain the fact that I saved nothing by eliminating many photos?

Could it be that they were all freebies?

If you're not uploading at full size then I think no storage space is deducted from your drive space alright.

    Problem solved.

1, did not have full size option ticked when I thought I had
2.photos I originally deleted were old and so probably below size linit
3, running recover space resized remaining photos so now taking up no space
    4. all photos are annually saved on separate hard drives

    Thanks to all

    Problem is back.

Got new PC with Windows 10

My Google photos used storage has increased and increased, now running at about 69%

I have cleared out every photo from Google photos and drive.

I uploaded a few at full size but cannot get the Recover Storage option, get

Upload size for photos and videos uploaded on the web only
    High quality (free unlimited storage)
Great visual quality at reduced file size
    Original (11 GB storage left)
Full resolution that counts against your quota

with the high quality button checked even though there are full sized photos uploaded.

    Any thoughts?
