    Does anybody know how I can get a 'virtual' US mobile number - I want to test a SMS service in the US.

    If you haven't found one already I use "Sideline" from the Apple store. It gives me a New York sideline number and texting. Its free. I'm unsure if you need an american number to register it with though, I live here so don't remember the sign up process

    Lyca Mobile offers you a free US mobile phone number for a couple of days if you have one of their Irish SIM's.

    You can activate in their online interface. If you want to keep the number you need to pay 5€ per year.
