the phone thing is intentional, it has to be, nobody could be that stupid and even if they are its not as if they arent reminded constantly, has anyone even been asked to leave yet?

There should be no second chances regarding phones.

You'd be surprised, people can just be ignorant and ignore the rules. I'd agree there should be no second chances. Hard to tell who's phone has just beeped in a crowd that size to be honest.

Don't think signal blockers are allowed either.

Another frame of brilliant safety shots.

Another frame of brilliant safety shots.

And Denis Taylor and John Parrot, great commentators.

Might not be everyone's cup of tea, but for me this is great viewing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,277 ✭✭✭Gizmo55

Dennis Taylor is annoying me to be honest. He keeps saying, 'I like the look of this shot', when it's clear the cue ball won't travel to where he means. He's doing it for dramatic effect.

    I pity the Fu

    ''This looks perfect''
'' no , no where near''

    Needs his bigger glasses back.

Only 23 points between them and most of the balls are safe, there could easily be another 30-45 minutes in this frame.

He wasn't claiming he came up with the nickname Sat navy Selby for those few attempts alright!

What's record for most unsuccessful attempts at getting out of a snooker?

Haha there's more drama in this frame than an episode of eastenders

    Nice shot yellow to green.

I can see another safety battle developing here over the brown.

EDIT: Not with that snooker actually!

    WOW
    Going out on 3 misses.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,807 ✭✭✭CFlat

Rotten way to go out of a semi final for Fu but that's snooker I suppose.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,089 ✭✭✭Lavinia

I'm just delighted!!! Fully and totally :)

Didn't want to jinx it for Mark but was holding my breath for him!! :)

Well done! He's such a class!

And Selby is in the final, wishing him the best.

I'd fancy Ding to win it now, he's played 8 frames fewer in the tournament and far less table time. Selby was looking exhausted today, I don't know if he has another 18 good frames left in him at this stage, especially against a scorer like Ding.

That was as quality as frame of snooker as you're ever likely to witness, neither played a single terrible shot there. Just some cracking safety from Selby and bad luck did for Fu in the end.

Fancy Selby. I feel Ding will carry the weight of a nation on his shoulders and if Selby still plays badly he'll find a way of dragging Ding down to his level the way he always does. Potentially great match-up though.

Fu played some great stuff over the two weeks, there was little between them tonight.

Ding has the advantage of having the longer rest, but the last time Selby was in the final O'Sullivan threatened to run away with it in the first two sessions before Selby got into his head, hopefully it'll be close to the end.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,478 ✭✭✭Comic Book Guy

Selby is a super competitor. I think Ding really needs to hit the ground running from the very start tomorrow and build a lead. Long draining semi final for Selby kinda like 2 years ago where Ronnie went ahead on Sunday but Selby had brilliant session on the Monday afternoon to take lead and almost break his opponents spirit.

    Should be fascinating

    Selby vs Ding Stats

Ronnie REALLY REALLY wants Ding to win!

Where's Ronnie Wood and his dog?!

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,513 ✭✭✭seanhynes

If any1 can pull it out of the bag it's selby ronnie ain't a fan ,selbys eyes in the interview half bloodshot he is absolutely wrecked a few frames an hour long today he will be shattered , I hope ding wins this comfortably and exhibition of century breaks again would be nice

    Not tonight I'm afraid :o

Btw Ronnie respects Mark lots he just got frustrated with Selby's rhythm that put him off so many times when two of them played against each other, though those matches were and are my fave - hope some more to come even not sure they will..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,432 ✭✭✭willmunny1990

I can't see past Selby tbh, a lot has to go right for Ding, he needs to hit the ground running and score heavily and consistently, he can't afford to let the game slip into long protracted tactical battles like this match tonight or else Selby will just grind him down to a nub.

While the semis have been tight, can't help but think this isn't a vintage year and neither player has really impressed throughout the tournament so they need to up a gear for the final it seems. Both very patchy in the semis. Although the semis were very entertaining.

There were more centuries -9 in the ding vs. Mcmanus semi, then there were in the entire 1984 world championship -8 a poor year for centuries.

Pockets seems very forgiving this year though.

I thought there were 10 centuries altogether?

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,089 ✭✭✭Lavinia

Actually just checked there were 10 altogether as:
    Junhui: 100, 131, 100, 128, 138, 113, 123;
    McManus: 107, 136, 125

If Ding gets into an early lead I think he'll blow Selby away. He's playing far better and scoring way more heavily.

Selby will grind and battle alright but he really needs to start winning frames in one visit to have any chance.

I agree they do seem more forgiving but overall the tables have played terribly. Personally I think they need to get rid of those Xing Pai tables. They are muck and it's a well known fact in the game. They aren't near the quality of the British made BCE tables of the 80's and 90s. The only reason they are keeping the Star tables is because Xing Pai are paying World Snooker huge amounts of money which cannot be matched by the other manufacturers.

Spot on. I'm sure this is what Mark Williams was hinting at on the bbc segment about the tables last week when he said "i can't really say what I want to say" because he'd get fined for doing so. I think ALL the players should come out and say it, they hate the Star tables and want to go back to Riley, and see what Hearn then does about it.
