Sorry if this was asked before, I have just purchased a new rifle having only just renewed licence, have been told I have to fill in new application form start to finish picture ,doctors name ect surly this is not the case?

Are you looking to license a new gun or substitute the license you have for your current rifle onto this new rifle?

Easy enough so.

You need to do a substitution. For a substitution you need an FCA1 and only the folloing sections:

• Section 1 - Tick "substitution", and "I have not held a cert............".
• Section 2.1 - All of it.
• Section 2.4 - All of it.
• Section 3.1 - Input the details of new gun here
• Section 3.2 - Tick Silencer if you want one/want to carry it to your new license
• Section 3.3 - Dealers details.
• Section 3.4 - Input your current firearm details here.
• Section 3.5 - All of it.
• Section 4.1 - All of it.
• Section 4.2 - All of it.
• Section 4.3 - Depending on whether you are a member of a range or gun club.
• Section 5.1 - All of it.
• Sign and date it.

Include a single photo, sign and date it.

Its straight forward enough and while you won't need all the info as you would for a full application you may need to fill out 75% of the FCA1.

Just finished, seems a bit stupid to me considering I only renewed last week, dealer advised me to fill in renewal for the old gun, get the card and proceed for new lience, he felt that was handy way out

If you have been issued your FCR the Gardaí will ask that you renew your current license and then substitute.

Not sure if its to make life easier for the FO or that PULSE will melt down if they try to sub when a renewal is in the works its really of no consequence. At worse you've an extra week or so before you get your new license.
