Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

My 4yr old male border collie has just began his annual shedding of hair.

He sleeps outside but I have him indoors daily. He sheds a massive amount of hair and he doesn't stop shedding hair until late in the year.

I usually brush him with a furminator on a monthly basis he still sheds buckets of hair.

Can anyone with experience of managing grooming of a similar dog please advise me?

I'm wondering are the professional dog grooms better? Would a dog hair blower work better? Should I attend a professional groom regular?

groomng each month isnt enough once per week would be far better.

have you considered adding salmon oil to his food this helps reduce shedding?

there are also shampoos you can get to help reduce shedding ..

also what are you feeding him? different foods can reduce shedding

I have a collie cross and we have the same problem
I brush him at least once a week (which he loves) and when i start too see the shedding increase take him to a groomers (which he hates !) , and i find a good grooming session takes a lot off him .
I will probably do two sessions at the groomer about 4 week apart at the beginning of each season. This keeps it under control.

Imagine what our Newfoundland Collie cross is like, and he loves to swim and then roll in wet sand

I just do a near daily run over him with an undercoat rake when we are out on a walk and before he gets wet. Sometimes little comes out others its comes out by the bin bag full in which case I spend a bit longer at it. Everyday is a bit excessive I know but a few minutes each day (sometimes its a lot longer) isn't much of a big deal.

I leave the fur outside where it drops at this time of year as the birds love it for nest material. The Great Tit in our postbox has just started to line its nest with our dogs hair.

Edit> Look at it this way, if you only just run a brush over the coat outside in the yard each day then you'll be removing a lot of what would otherwise be shed indoors.
