They had too much focus on the mothers, they started to dominate the show. That's the fault of the producers and editors, they need to learn from this.

Thought the guy with the red-head was too nervous, he admitted it himself. He was far more natural in the audition than in the restaurant. Also I'll give him the benefit of the doubt when it came to her paying. First of all he may have objected a fair bit, but this could have been cut. Also I would be under the impression she was angling for a second date. She doesn't want someone who has the same interests as her; frankly that's a tiny bit odd but fair enough. But he had lost from the off as the red-head fancied the Cork army guy like mad.

Cork army guy was a very relaxing date, thought she was nice too. Big distance between the two of them and she's a home bird I think.

Was surprised the Mayo drummer didn't go on a second date with Jane. Thought she looked way better in the audition with the hair down. Her look was very 70's hippy. But as someone said above he has a very long road to travel to full recovery, prone to relapses on the way. But he seems like a very, very decent bloke all the same.

I really like the older couple, I like the way she knows what she wants to do with her life. Funny the way they both live at home with the parents now. They seem well suited to each other, if not as a couple then certainly as friends. She's still hurt from her ex passing away, she should consider grief counselling. I did it and it helped me enormously.

Thought the programme was overall good tonight, would be a lot better if we had less of the mothers.

A good chance? It's already happened. If someone is so close to a parent that they'd be happy to bring them along on a first date, on national television, I would steer clear. Not just because of what they'll turn out like, but because of what you'd have to deal with in the here and now.

Hate the entrants with a gimmick, like bringing an entourage or parent with them....they should've been kept separate as the second fella never got a chance after the ginger one saw the first fella (and i think she said she wanted a gaa head - she kind of reminded me about a decade ago when i was that age and majority at that age would prefer a gaa head type)

I loved both musicians. He's very brave to be so open about his recovery and struggles. In saying that I kind of felt he was more interested in telling his story than getting to know his date. Maybe I picked it up wrong or it was nerves which is understandable in fairness

I was surprised the older couple matched I wasn't feeling any chemistry between them.

Good god that Dutch girl had me weak at the knees. She was absolutely gorgeous.

I thought they got on very well but I guess it was more friendly than flirty. He's also got a lot of baggage and although it didn't appear to bother her on the show she obviously had enough of a head on her shoulders to know that's not what she wants which you have to respect too.

Two very very classy people it was really refreshing to see.

What is it with this thread and hating GAA players? It feels like people found out the colleague they stared at in work but never said hello to ended up dating a GAA player and they’re never going to let it go. Such irrational hatred towards something that hasn’t even happened in the show and keeps coming back up. :pac:

I was surprised the two musicians didnt get together, I was really surprised he said no as she was cute and very nicely also got a N/A beer, which is a really lovely way to handle being on a date with a non drinker. It suggested to me she wasn't like a lot of Irish girls who would tend to think it was weird and not fun to be on a date and not drink.

He was very good looking too, and really nice. But...

I would never spring the whole recovery thing on someone on a first date, especially in Ireland. Girls will run a mile even though like your man there, that road can often give people a whole new outlook, teach them patience, kindness, etc which are positive things for a partner. There is also the chance of relapse like some have said but for most they just want to be able to drink without affecting the other person, even if its just occasionally.

I agree, there was something off about her. So many times when her date was in the middle of saying something completely normal she shook her head and put it in her hands as if she couldn't believe what he was saying....people like that are usually the ones without any life experience outside of their own little bubble

He was rather bewildered throughout the date, he didn't know she had an entourage with her.

I honestly think he was too in the "wtf is happening" zone to even offer to pay half.....tbh he kinda deserved a free meal.

It’s the right call. Leaving who pays in leads to dramatic/awkward situations and talking points for here, the fact we’re having this conversation alone is proof that it works. Plus if there’s any kinda cash incentive whatsoever it’ll mean the show will start to attract the kind of people everyone on here doesn’t like instead of people who actually just want to meet someone (it already is starting to attract people who think they’ll be famous tbh despite the fact that not a single person has gotten a career in showbiz out of being on it thus far).

I thought all of the daters were very nice this week. The 2 parents should have stayed at home though, they were a pain in the throllocks.

If I want to watch First Dates through the eyes of someone else, I'll watch Gogglebox. The two mothers were f'n irritating. The show was essentially about the four of them and whilst I had no problem with the two girls (albeit one seemed a bit weirdly uninterested), the mothers and the way they went on was just awful.

Bad production, there are better stories to tell than what their mothers acting like two bell-ends taking pictures and cackling like hyenas.
