Had a fantastic call with sony about them taking my money but not giving me a product. Ordered something off the SEN store and money gone but no product. Their web form is broken, phone takes ages to get through so resorted to chat windows. Paranoia may be setting in a little but its Sony, they have a record with storing your data.

'unsecure, unauthenticated chat window over http' with a public accessible link:
Admin: sir, please provide the following personal details so we can proceed. (tons of personal data and security questions)
Me: thats a lot of information just to confirm me, this is also a link chat which could be seen by anyone. i have just opened the same link on 2 browsers, i can see the whole history. my info could be stolen.
Admin: well then if you dont provide us your data, we cannot help you, goodbye.
Me: but surely you see my problem here
Admin: there is nothing i can do if you dont help me and provide me what was asked
Me: is there something more secure i can use?
Admin: Here is an email form you can use
Me: But that is unsecure too and is broken on the server end, look at the errors.
Admin: Clear your cache and it will be fine
Me: The error is on the server, look at the page and see the display
Admin: i cannot help anymore, you need to just ring us and provide your personal data over the phone to proceed with giving you your money back
Me: well at this point i'm concerned trying to get my money back will just cause me to lose more of my money

He's not legally allowed to help you without doing a DP check. End of.

If you aren't willing to use the chosen channel (which arguably isn't the best but not terrible if they use a suitable key) then use another. Whats the problem.

If you are unhappy giving your details online for security reasons this is fine Just ring them instead. Not a big deal at all.

    I'm not seeing the issue,
I just tried Sony chat support for Ireland just now and its very clearly https as the chat server address is https://c-rnr-cs24.instantservice.com, browser also shows this as encrypted.

Its the exact same for UK and US support,

If you won't verify the a/c then the agent can't help you, its that simple

If its not showing as secure then I'd suggest you look at your browser or computer as its clearly https,

Just to add after you did give them the information and tell them your issue they'd ask you to call them as all account stuff has to be done over the phone.
